Well I will of course assume your mother isn't wanting to play games or edit video, but I guess it would have been nice if you said what she actually wanted.

I would consider switching the motherboard to the MSI B85M-E45 because it's a bit cheaper.  link

Or maybe a H81 board because she probably doesn't need the extra features of B85.

Also I would step down to 4 gigabytes of RAM as it's highly unlikely she will need 8.

She doesent need that fast ram, otherwise everything looks pretty good :) Also a 500W PSU may be abit overkill, or actually way too much overkill :P

so what should the ram be? as for psu it may be upgraded in the future so having the leg room is a good idea

It is fine mine. The most money that ram would safe you is like 3£ if you got slower one. The power supply is meh but no graphics card and overclocking it is fine.

This would be better. Gives you still PLENTY of power for light tasks, etc, but with enough GPU power to run a couple of casual games/internet games, etc.

... Seeing as the 'LOL' was at the top, I thought that you were referring to how bad the OPs build was, and that you managed to fit an i5 into the budget.
