Did you set the boot priority order to boot from USB before your hard disk / network adapter?

Installing to a server isnt something magical, it's the same as installing to your desktop.

Theres no general best for "gaming server", but for your specific case with Minecraft, I found it ran best on linux - the particular flavor I used for mine was CraftBukkit running on CentOS (which is a Redhat Linux Kernel).

If you're struggling to install an OS and have never used Linux though, might be easiest to stick with Windows. I'd just go Windows 7 or if you really want a server version, Windows 2008 R2 is very low resource (350-500MB memory at idle)  which is a good thing with the memory that Java uses to run Minecraft

Windows Server 2008 R2 is the server version of Windows 7.

I tried installing the same ISO the server as my computer. Still giving me the blank screen like this:

+-------------------------------+

 _

+-------------------------------+

^ Imagine that is the screen ^
