It depends on which card do you have and when it was manufactured, some 970's are cards equal to 980s with BIOS of 970 put onto it, not every 970 has the 3,5 GB issue

Yep I agree, even though I have not experienced any issues with my 970 concerning VRAM or performance I would still switch to a R9 390 any day but my crappy 600W PSU would probably not be enough for it. I have lost my trust in the green side of the GPU market after all this 'shady stuff' and recently the Async controversy ;-;

600W is enough really. You will draw about 450W probably so it's likely fine - if it can handle 40*C temps then it's fine.
