Should I go Z97, X99 or Z170?

Hello, and thanks for reading this already!

I'm creating a build (http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/TTTJ4D) for rendering, gaming and game development.

I started planning in January (yes, I've been working on this for 9 months) and suddenly Intel decided too confuse me and released 2011 V3 and 1151 around the planning times. Great :P.

So, what should I do?

  • Asus Maximus VII Ranger Z97 / i7-4790K / Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz. Cheapest solution.
  • MSI Z170A Gaming Pro / i7-6700K / Kingston HyperX Fury 2666MHz. €46,36/ $51,61 more expensive than the previous.
  • MSI X99S Plus / i7-5820K / Kingston HyperX Fury 2666MHz. €107,9 / $120,13 more expensive than the previous.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

either a 4790k or a 5820k (although you can make the 4790k solution even cheaper by not getting a ROG board). Skylake doesn't really make sense at this point because it's quite a bit more than Haswell with marginal performance gains.

Either will be good for rendering, but a 5820k will be faster for rendering (and just as good for gaming IFF it overclocks just as high).

When do you actually plan to purchase this computer. Planning so far ahead is useless due to the frequent change in parts.

depends on how heavy your workload is.  If you feel you need the extra cores, go for X99 for sure.  If not, the 4790k will suit your needs just fine

I plan to get it at least before the end of the year. This month or October if possible.

Budget?

(Should have said it before :P).

I try too keep costs as low as possible because I'm addicted too milkshakes :P.

I can afford X99, but it needs to be worth it.

how much rendering/editing?

if its moderate then go for z107

if its higher then moderate go x99

(Sorry about that :P)

I will be making projects in After Effects, Photoshop and Game Development engines like Unity mainly!

What are you talking about....the two are basically equal with Skylake being a few percent faster.
