Just go ahead and send in the request. Worse they can do is say no.

I would clean off the thermal paste, and make the CPU look nice before you send it in.

if you have the original box send it back to them in that (and inside another box of course) but dont put the stock cooler or anything else in there

they only will ask for the CPU, and adding more stuff just adds weight to the package

Remember that if it came with a stock cooler, you got to ship that in too.

Intel has a program for retailers that allows them to swap a unit out of their own stock without much risk so contacting the store instead of Intel might be viable if it was brick and mortar.

Intel RMA is awesome. Had a broken Pentium G3258 with no invoice. Started a chat, said that I tested it on 2 boards. 30 Minutes after the Chat, DHL Express picked it up at 6:30pm and 2 days later I had my new CPU. So awesome, would use the Intel RMA service any time again.

You can contact Intel USA if you want, even if you live somewhere else. So cool!

Well, it would cost me what maybe an extra $5? and plus I don't use the stock cooler now.....so why would I need two of them? I just figure send it back too in the stock box so I can avoid any more headaches than I have already encountered. :)

If I thought I had a use for it yeah I'd for sure keep it but really....as long as I get a new one I'm fine with it.

Thanks!

well the stock cooler is way heavier than just the CPU so it would make the shipping cost quite a bit higher...

not sure about the rates in your area, but its probably not cheap

and there would be no headaches anyway, intel asks you to leave all accessories out and only send the CPU chip

so sending the stock cooler is useless, you might as well just throw it away

Cost to ship is the same with or without the cooler. It should be under a pound either way so cost will be the same.

They asked for me to ship the processor with it so I just sent the whole box it was in cause the IHS is stained from thermal paste on my 4770k which I noted on a peice of paper in the box.

Nope

I shipped them my 3770k without the stock cooler because they said to leave any accessories behind

I just filed a RMA for my 4770k about 2 weeks ago. They told me to ship the cooler with it and any third party accessories to be left behind.

Yep, after reading the email they sent I determined to keep the stock cooler and I have sent it on it's way!

I just hope they they realize that the cpu memory controller is only defective when using more than 2 gb sticks of ram. For instance using an 8GB ram kit {2gb *4} it was fine, but using a 16bg kit {4gb *4} causes the memory controller and the CPU to crash and also overheat, no matter what was done in the bios.....So yeah I hope they realize that and don't just send it back to me :)

  {and yes it was good ram}

Thanks!

This whole thing could quite easily be resolved by the OP simply asking his Intel CSR if they want him to ship the stock cooler with it or not.  <_<

Well I cant show you because I already deleted the emails, but they specifically said to not ship with any accessories because they will not be returning them

That includes anything but the CPU

And its true because intel ships you a new one, they wouldnt ship a new one plus the stock cooler you sent them back...
