Any help is appreciated...

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Switch the gpu to the gigabyte one: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvr777oc1gd

It's clocked 0.1 ghz higher and has a blue pcb to match the mobo.

The rest of the build looks solid.

Edit: Are there any of the sites that are likely to have cheaper prices than pcpartpicker or no?

Hey Linus Tech Tippers,

I'm trying to make up my mind as to the parts for my pc build. It will be for gaming @ 1280 x 1024 resolution  :( cheap old monitor. I would want to play Elder Scrolls Online, Minecraft, Battlefield 4 (@ Med-High @ 40fps ).

This will also be used for casual use such as YouTube and Facebook, etc.

My budget is $950 NZD (nz.pcpartpicker.com)

These are the parts i need:

  • CPU (if possible a quiet cooler)
  • Mobo
  • RAM
  • HDD
  • GPU
  • PSU
  • Case
  • Wireless Adapter
  • Optical Drive.

I already have an OS, keyboard, mouse and mouse pad.

Right now i have this: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/user/Photon_Debugger/saved/26eD

(It would also help to have a DVI to VGA adapter for the old monitor)

My main problem is that I cant choose between an FX 6300 now, or a i3 3220 now, then upgrade to 3570k later.

Also i cant decide on a graphics card, something to play current and next gen games at Med-High @ 40fps @ 1280 x 1024

I will probably overclock the CPU later on (next gen of games) so an unlocked processor and CPU cooler would help. I can always add a CPU cooler on later though.

And if you can pick a GPU that has some nice cooling so i can overclock it later that would help a lot.

I want as much overlclocking capability and cooling as possible so can increase performance without breaking the bank.

I also would like to it to be as "future proof as possible", as in i can upgrade GPU without changing PSU and CPU without changing Mobo. I picked the FX 6300 in my build because from what i have seen it shouldn't bottleneck a mid range Radeon HD 9XXX series card.

I know this a lot to ask in such as small budget (NZ has ridiculous prices), but any help is greatly appreciated! :)

To help here are some sites that sell parts here in NZ:

  • playtech.co.nz
  • pp.co.nz
  • ascent.co.nz
  • computerlounge.co.nz
  • mightyape.co.nz

The NZ equivalent of eBay : trademe.co.nz

There is always PCPartPicker there to help (please use if possible)

Any help, tips or advice from you guys will help me a lot ( this is my first build ). Please keep the comments nice, i know im a noob.

If you haven't already noticed "NZ" stands for New Zealand, so please don't recommend parts from Newegg (this has happened before).

Once again, im sorry for asking so much of you guys but any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! :))

Yea thats pretty hard, since prices are like 2-3x the us prices

Pretty solid build. I would probably go with maybe a 4 core cpu and maybe a better graphics card?

@WoodenMarker Does the Gigabyte card have much more room for overclocking? I would say all the sites have similar pricing but ascent, pp, and computer lounge have free shipping so i tend to stick to those :)

@ComputerNoob Yeah it's crazy, US currency is THAT much stronger than NZ's. Some crazy tax/inflation stuff i don't know anything about. And the FX 4300 is about $10 less than the six core so no point downgrading.

I'm not sure about extra room but I reckon it's the same or more. It's nice to have the guaranteed higher clock to start with considering it's only $2 more.

Fair enough, only thing is that I'll need a DVI to VGA adapter, but that shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

I'm not entirely sure but the gpu should come with one. Every dvi-capable gpu I've opened has had one.
