I dont understand what difference Dual Channel has over a single stick of ram? Are there any compatibility issues?

Yeah some cpu's only support two channels or more but not one I believe.

I have a machine running with two 32gb kits in quad channel. dual/triple/quad channel makes things faster... kinda

dual channel has about 10% performance benefit, when you're doing memory intensive applications.

 

mostly people recommend going dual channel because theres no price difference, so you might as well go for it.
