Best Radeon 7950?

spartin503
Go to solution Solved by BeyondNight,

Would the Windforce be a good choice if I could get it for $240, cause I have a friend that got it for his gaming rig, but after using it for about a week he couldn't stand the noise that it makes in his system, so he's looking sell it and get a different card. But he has a mini-ITX build and only has one case fan, while I have the THOR v2 case and I have 3x230mm fans and 120mm case fans, and one of those 230mm fans is pointing directly at the PCI card area.
Definitley, i have one in with good airflow its not loud at all! its also a really cold running card.
Here is a screen shoot of my XFX with the vcore unlocked with MSI afterburner

Dang that pic didn't come out so good on here :( if you right click and click view image, then zoom in you can see it is my XFX 7950

So for more than year you've had a card that's actually faster than a GTX 680 @ the clocks your're running .

I find that astonishing .

WOW that actually shocks me and makes me happy at the same time, I had no idea that my card was faster then the 680 I was just comparing it to the high end 7970's for the past year

When I first installed MSI after burner the vcore was locked but then I changed stuff in the registry and it unlocked it for me. here is how I unlocked it http://forums.overclockersclub.com/i...owtopic=182403 I guess AMD cards you have to mess with the registry in order to unlock it' date=' you do not have to do this with Nvidia cards[/quote']

nVidia 600 series cards don't overclock well though due to the voltage cap , which is really really annoying .

I got the xfx r7950 to 1175 on the core

However my 680 hit 1306 on core and outperfors the 7950. But I must say the xfx r7950 is a beast of a card.

I say the MSI 7950, I have it and it oc's great, runs cool, and also came with a 7970pcb. Either way any 7950 will perform good.

Best. I have tested many 7950s and this one is by far the best, a comparable card will be the MSI 7950 Twin Frozr. I didn't recommend the Sapphire 7950 Vapor-X because some users have reported that it is voltage locked. If you are just buying one 7950 and not planning to Crossfire, the Asus 7950 will be another viable option.

I really enjoy my ASUS DCII 7950. It is the base model, not the TOP edition. Ive overclocked it to 1005 core 1500 memory clock without touching the voltage and keeping fan speed at a mininal. It is silent and runs like a beast.

Vapor-X is unlocked... the locked version is the previous one with 6+8 pins.

The updated 2x8 pins is just fantastic.
