Potential PSU trouble, low 12v rail reading

msicrow

Ok so my desktop has been crashing a lot recently (screen completely freezes and can't move keyboard or mouse but computer still running in the background), leading to plenty of troubleshooting, windows reset etc. Noticed in both Speccy and HWMonitor my +12v rail is running at about +7.87V. I don't currently have anything else to test the voltage. Is this most likely the source of my problems?

Forgot to mention PSU model is a Corsair CX600

IF the voltage is actually <8 volts this is most likely the couse of the crashes.

Do you have a spare PSU to test? Also there are cheap voltmeters for ~10$. Not really acurate, but way enougth to differencialt 8V from 12 V. :)

EDIT: Does the voltage change under different load conditions?

Software reading can be inaccurate, but that seems excessively low. Using a multimeter, you should be within 5% of 12v to meet 'spec'. So, 11.4v - 12.6v should be considered normal, anything else may warrant a PSU replacement.
