I am starting to get annoyed with the whole "smart phone" industry.  Every week it seems that a new phone or 2 are being released, all pretty much having the same performance, specs and design.  It feels exhausting trying to keep up and with devices being so expensive and carrier contracts being 2-3 years long it is just not feasible for average consumer to keep up.  Too many companies are trying to hop onto the phone bandwagon.  Then there is the constant bombardment of advertisements from the good folks at the marketing departments of carriers and manufacturers.

Anyone else feeling exhausted and annoyed by this?  I know competition is good and so is advancement, but at this point it feels like companies are just moving the power and volume buttons and calling it "innovative."

EDIT: Recently got the Note 2 and it has revitalized me. Amazing device!

That's what I do (well every 3 years for me), but I see all these companies going balls to the wall fighting to get a share of the phone market, and who think that people will drop the device they have for theirs.

EDIT: Its not about me not being able to keep buying phones, rather the intense focus all the tech companies have with a market that has and should have a long upgrade cycle.

I still have my trusty Desire HD. I've thought about swapping it out several times but have always come to the conclusion "Well it still works so...". I wish the other companies would be a lot more like Apple though, spending good time developing one very good phone instead of releasing a new top end model what feels like every week. Especially HTC have been guilty of this in the past. That doesn't mean they shouldn't release low end phones though, but a bit more focus on fewer phones would be great.

Exactly what I was thinking.  People have been knocking Apple for years for releasing products too often yet Samsung release phones every 8 months and drop the support for them even quicker.  I appreciate the design that goes into Apple devices.  I like how they are redesigning the UI of iOs instead of spending their time morphing a phone into a point and shoot camera.

I don't see it as a problem.

I got a Galaxy Note II recently, whilst fully aware that the Galaxy Note III was inbound very soon. I don't care about buying the newest and greatest (though it's a nice additional benefit) phone, I just choose the one that I happen to like the most or works best for me.

Since making this thread I got the note 2 as well (bought used) knowing that the 3 is coming and all my problems have been solved, it is an amazing phone. Even calling it a "phone" doesn't do it justice.
