I have not written much on this forum but wanted to ask all the smart people.

I own a company that create mod stuff for other type of market (gaming market but not so much PC) and I have been thinking about going into the case building market but had some questions:

1. Have any manufacturer made a similar case like a Mac Pro (cylinder)?

2. Is ATX the standard that most people use or mATX is equal in terms of sales?

3. What exactly are you, as a customer, looking for when buying a case?

4. Would a case made out of MDF be something people might want?

Sorry for such random questions, just what I wanted to know at the moment.

If it ain´t broke don't try to break it.

I'm looking for things like the NZXT H440 and Noctis 450. But.. With a companies twist on them. The PSU basement is what outs the NZXT on top for Me. It's not tacky it's clean. Same with the HDD coverup thing, ATX and micro-ATX are both pretty common. Don't know what MDF is but if a case can use mostly metal it's a quality case and real glass also.

EDIT- AND airflow. Airflow is a big issue with the H440 because of the sound foam stuff. Otherwise id love to go with a H440

1. ikea.

2. i'm gonna say mATX because pretty much all prebuilts in the world use mATX.

3. understated design, practical in usage, silent, easy to work on.

4. i come from a background of kitchen manufacturing, and have thought of doing this myself, because its an interesting design aesthetic, while also being really good at muffling sounds.

1. No, and the reason for this is probably the requirement for very specific, very custom hardware. Nothing on the market would support this formfactor.

2. I would say ATX is still the standard, but mATX is definitely gaining momentum.

3. I, personally, am looking for the smallest possible case with the best possible cooling (mITX but fully fledged gaming PC). Quality is a must, anything but aluminium and high quality wood is a no go, and beauty may just be the biggest factor of all.

4. Absolutely not. You will have a very hard time selling anything made of MDF, it literally screams unprofessionalism.

Atx is the most common still. and as far as features I go for. Cable management, dust filters , room for at least 2 280mm rads, PSU cover's are nice, and good cable pass throughs are also nice, but the most important thing is the aesthetics.

I like the H440 also but the NZXT logo is kind of an I sore in some builds, and again the air flow. They need to put the H440 in the room with the air 540 and let them make babys.

1. Not to my knowledge. What needs to be noted is that the motherboard in Mac Pro doesn't follow any form factor standard. A cylindrical case for PC would have to be at least ITX compatible.

2. To rise above others, you need variants of the same design for ATX, m-ATX and ITX. m-ATX is most common among casual PC gamers, ATX is most common among hardcore gamers and ITX would be most suitable design-wise, right?

3. Room to expand. I don't care how it looks, feels or tastes. I want there to be room to apply all my crazy designs now and in the future. For that reason alone, my current case is Enthoo Primo.

4. It being heavy would likely be my only potential problem.

Thanks for all the answers!

I'll will not do it in mdf (medium density board) then, could just create new problems.

I am very interested in making a cylindrical case though, with standard components. I know it is possible and get good cooling with low noise but it will take some time to make it proper.

So final question is: would a cylindrical case sell on the market if it is of high quality, low noise, good air cooling and easy to work on?

Got some planning to do....

If you're set on using wood, try Marine ply, and a steamer. The glue used isn't near as susceptible to moisture, and when it sets it doesn't move (It's what most of my skateboarding friends used to use to construct halfpipes)

Would a cylindrical case sell? Yes, but you have to solve the issue of a compatible motherboard. Make it to big and it looks ugly. Make it to small, and you cannot fit quality components in it.

The logo doesn't bother me. It's a simple logo that lights up in the case like the Noctis 450. If the Noctis 450'and some sound dampening foam ( not as much as the h440 ) but Atleast like behind the mobo and where the window is. It wouldn't be that insane silent case but it would help.
