That deal is steal tho, in Australia an i5-4690k cost $320, your getting Xeon for a great price w/mobo. But Xeon are still great for gaming preformance.  @Comic_Sans_MS

No, It is not.

i5's are i7's without hyperthreading and still unlocked.

Xeons are for workstations, not gaming computers!

i think i'm going to have to direct you to @Pugs501

I understand that.

I am just saying it is not made for gaming, It is made for workstations.

Isn't that like saying all locked CPU's are not made for gaming,...like the i5 4690 and i7 4790 (at the stock clocks) are not gaming CPU's, because they can't stretch their legs overclocking like K-Skews?

^ like Xeons, workstation or not, their IPC and core strength holds up,.. so why can't it be a gaming CPU?

Think another 30s on it,...and All CPU's are not MADE for Gaming, PC's were not made for Games (back in the day)

Doesn't mean you cant use them...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I am saying that Xeons are made for Workstations and NOT anything else, I am NOT saying that they are a bad CPU, I am saying that they are not aimed for gaming. They may run fine, but THAT ISN'T THE TARGET AUDIENCE.

It is like buying a Mac and install windows on it to play games, it can run them, but it is not designed or made for that!

The i5's and the i7's are both aimed to the general public INCLUDING Gamers and they also advertise to gamers and regular people.

Get Intel, it's much better. And for those who argue 4690k or the Xeon, mind that you would need good overclocking motherboard to benefit from the "K" and a better cooling if you want to go over 4.2GHz, that wouldn't make a difference since stock boost is 3.9GHz. You can get non "K" 4690 though. But the Xeon is good choice as well, it has hyperthreading..

Im searching for a new intel cpu and i saw in the intel website that the i7 4820k has a LGA 2011 socket but only supports DDR3 RAM. Is it a mistake and if not where can I find such motherboards?

https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/?compatible_with=intel-cpu-bx80633i74820k#L=3. Why would you need the 4820K. You can get 4790K for the same price. If only for gaming the 2 more cores wont make difference

Well, the 2011-V3 support DDR4. It is like the updated version of LGA 2011. But before DDR4 came there was simple 2011 for intel's enthusiast chips.

Didn't read post. Intel.

(I did actually. Still Intel.)

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

huh?

what you want?

ohhh... Yeah if you want a i7 but don't want to OC and you don't have enough for it, a Xeon E3-1231v3 is your best choose.

It has everything that a i7 would have expect for the ability to OC, but you get HyperThreading for the price of a i5

Because he had a hard drive.
