AutoPlay refusing to work on Windows Vista

My grandfather's Dell computer running Windows Vista 32 bit (Inspiron 530, but I think that's irrelevant) used to have Autoplay setup to automatically transfer pictures from his digital camera (Canon Powershot 1300 is). Autoplay will not even open when the camera is plugged in and there is no option for autoplay when right clicking on the camera in Windows Explorer. I can't seem to find anyone with this problem.
