Can i use any 3.5mm audio extension cable for microphones

The cable on my new microphone (Rode Smartlav+) is to short. Can i buy any extensions and use itn with the mic. I will be hooking it up to my Moto G 2014

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Rode do a proper extension cable, its not very expensive, I would get that if I was you

Should be fine... Just choose one that is thick enough so that it won't break easily...

in audio cables theres two things that matter: the resistance of the cable, and the quality of the connectors.

 

if you have a cable that doesnt tick off okay on the first one, please use it to strangle the person who designed it.

What? 3 pole is not rare.. most headphones with a built in mic use a 3 pole, headphones use a 2 pole, mono headphones/mics use one pole

 

There are even 4 and 5 connector ones used in smartphones and laptops

i meant in extension cables. at least in my area i've never seen a 3pole extension cable other than those that get delivered with said device.

 

that said, i've used a 3pole rca breakout cable with a 2pole device before without any issue.

and to explain the "proceed to strangle" with one pole: it happens that cable companies cheap out, and get a 2pole (or even 3pole) connector, and solder the contacts together to make a 1pole cable.

i used to be able to buy a 5m 2pole extension cable for like.. €1.50

 

then the company decided to cheap out even harder than they already did, and made their cables about as bend resistant as a sheet of glass...

i broke two of their newer cables by takin them out the packaging...

 

should also say that ordering specific cables online here can take several weeks of delivery time. (unless flandersdigital or some other local thing has them)
