So i just bought a Samsung 850 EVO and there was just the bare drive, the install CD, the install packet and warranty packet. No Sata to USB cable to clone the drive. So how would i install the SSD without this cable? Could i just install it into my pc, then use the installation CD to do the rest?

you should know you need to buy the sata cable

as for cloning ...make an image of your current drive with acronis trueimage....then just restore that image to the ssd

you probably will need an external hdd for this..not sure if you can put the image on the drive you are imaginging

if you have it in more then 1 partition..probably can image it to the second partition

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

You can unplug the hard drive and install windows again to the SSD and start new.

I shut it off and unplugged it from power then installed the SATA power and data. Turned the computer on, went into file explorer and it wasn't showing another drive.

Does your BIOS, before windows, see the drive...

You may have to get in there and see if the bios sees it first, and if not, why not.

If the bios does NOT see it, try plugging it into another sata port on your mobo and then check bios again.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

But then I would lose all my files and i dont have the install disk anymore.

Create a bootable USB and back up ur files to a external or drag and drop important documents to like a USB.

GUYS - He can backup his stuff and such yes, BUT...HE CANT EVEN SEE HIS SSD YET,  replies are 'fixing' the wrong issue.

/If your current C:\ USED space size is smaller than the SSD, you could do a C:>D: clone without need for a reinstall, then tell the cloned SSD to be the boot drive afterwards.

I've done this hundreds of times for work, depending what software you choose to do it, its fast and easy.

Ok the bios is picking it up. Yet idk why its not in file explorer. And my C drive is about 500 GB full and the SSD is only 120 GB. I was just going to put my OS onto the SSD and maybe a game or two.

So ive discovered if i right click my c drive, go to properties, and then click hardware, the Samsung 850 EVO is under the all disk drives menu, yet still not in file explorer.

Hey there pwuest2,

Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management? If the drive is properly recognized in BIOS (model and capacity) then you should be able to see it in both the Device Manager and Disk Management. If the drive appears in Disk Management with a small red arrow, you need to initialize the drive, partition and then format it and assign it a letter. Only then you will see it in My Computer. :) I'd try that and see if it works or the drive needs replacement.
