It's a pretty crappy deal really but where he's located probably the best option.

Where I live, I can get 2Gb/2Gb for 299 a month.....I mean it's comcast, but still

£299 a month? sorry but youre on drugs mate, thats well too expensive just for internet.

Erm he's from the U.K. not the U.S. so how could it be $299, and yes it is a stupid price, you can already get 1Gb speeds in some parts of the U.K. for £22 ($34) for 6 months then £47 ($72) after, we don't get ripped off as bad as people in the U.S.

You guys have Comcast in the UK? I suppose it's quite possible that the UK has a small Comcast division. But since Comcast is the largest Cable Provider in the US, it was a pretty damn safe assumption that he's American.

Especially since I don't see any mention of Comcast in Either of these links:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_in_the_United_Kingdom#Current_providers

http://www.choose.net/media/guide/features/home-broadband-market-overview.html

Nor here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_broadband_providers_in_the_United_Kingdom

So, if I'm incorrect, I sincerely apologize - but forgive me for making an incredibly safe assumption.

If he is in fact from the UK, then that changes the equation. My entire argument was that $299 was not a ripoff for the US. Not to mention the UK and the US are incomparable when it comes to the cost of providing broadband infrastructure. Your entire country is the size of one US State. It costs a lot more to physically install the infrastructure for such a larger area.

Just to give some background about Comcast's 2GB service. Yes, Comcast did release 2GB about a month ago for non-business customers for $299. Currently, almost all customers have a neighborhood node box with HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) where fiber comes in, then is split off into big coax cables that leads to the tap on your street, then a normal coax cable is ran to you house. Because all homes only have coax cabling they have to put in a work order for a team to install fiber to your home before you can get this service. It requires upgrading the node, taps, and cabling that could take between 1-2months or longer after you requested the service. The node could be anywhere from 10f eet from your home to 1-2miles (just depends on your area). See below why it takes so long.

Comcast recently started doubling customer's internet speed over the last year without a price increase for normal customers using coax. How? They been upgrading their equipment to handle faster speed. That is the easy part (just costs money). The hard part is running fiber between the node in your neighborhood to everyone's home - they have to either dig and place the cable into the ground or run fiber in existing underground pipes. With over 30million customers (it may be more) you can see how it can take a while for everyone gets fiber to their house. It would have been easier for Comcast to complete this work if the merger was allowed - but most customers just assumed they wanted to merge with TWC to screw over customers.

Please keep in mind that some of my info may be incorrect, I'm just throwing it out there to provide some basic understanding and encourage readers to research on their own for more specific info. *My understanding is based on the western side of the United States.

Did you miss the giant bold, italic, underlined statement where he said "I MEAN IT's COMCAST, BUT STILL". Please answer my question. Does Comcast operate in the UK? If not, then what the hell was he even talking about?

Not to sound like a jack ass or anything (ok, maybe to sound a little like a jack ass) but a quick google search quickly revels that indeed there is a UK branch of Comcast "Comcast UK Cable Partners Ltd." It is an official branch of Comcast.

Off of comcasts own corporate website: "1994: Comcast UK Cable Partners, which was constructing a cable telecommunications network in the U.K., goes public"

I mean... was it too much effort for you to put that into google yourself?

I did in fact google that, and saw that entry. However, I could not find one single reference to them actually operating as an ISP in the UK. I checked the UK Broadband setup website (linked in my previous post - choose.net), I checked the wikipedia list of major active UK ISP's, I checked UK ISP Support Forums.

I don't see any indication that Comcast has ever done anything with their "Comcast UK" office.

Actually we don't have Comcast, never have mate.

Okay, so what was he talking about then? He specifically referenced the package as from Comcast. Perhaps he simply didn't write what he meant clearly, and this is all a big misunderstanding though.

Maybe its just one big cover up, and its secretly an NSA listening outpost in the UK... and now, simply for talking about it we are all being monitored by the NSA.
