So basically I'm trying to test if this CPU works but I don't have any thermal paste and I don't have a compatible heatsink for it. So I'm wondering if just placing an AMD heatsink on it would keep it at a safe enough temperature for me to test some stuff. It's a Core 2 Duo btw.

What's the TDP? If it's under 100 watts your safe to run it for about 10-20 seconds

Use toothpaste as a temporary measure

(note I am joking and take no responsibility for damaged hardware, using it without paste is ok, but not for long, it will heat up very quickly, but you should be able to see if it posts and works)

put toothpaste on there.

chocolate works better, it increases ur temperatures over no thermal paste

no thermal paste will scratch ur cpu :(

even using a banana as thermal paste wud be better, just rub the banana over ur cpu and it will work xD

Nutella is supposed to work reasonably well actually, but with all these gash heatsink compound solutions, make sure you clean off all of whatever gunk you use perfectly otherwise the surface might spoil. Toothpaste is normally slightly abrasive, Nutella and mayo is food and as a result I would imagine probably a little corrosive, as for semen...well, you probably only have a few hours (or minutes if you're going to be trying to stress test) before it dries solid and I'd imagine it would then be worse than not using any heatsink compound...

Personally I'd get onto Amazon and buy some Arctic Silver V or Tuniq TX-3, it's about £5-10 and you'll be able to use it for many CPU and heatsink installations, just a little blob in the middle and the heat and pressure does the rest.
