Hey guys,

Currently Im using a 2.1 sound system, and for obvious reasons subwoffers aren't allowed in the dorms.

Since it was a pretty cheap setup (like 50 usd) all the power componentry is in the sub, so the satellites cant be used by themselves (they technically can, but it will be very quiet because it wont be amplified).

I have around 100-150 usd to spend on some 2.0 speakers, and was wondering what would be the best bang for the buck, yet small-ish.

I was looking at Bluetooth speakers at first, but then I realized that the sound quality degradation isnt worth the portability, so I started to look at 2.0 speakers. The simple audio listens are a little over 100 USD on a local retailer, which sounds pretty good as Linus said they were 500 USD when he reviewed them a year ago. I have a few friends that have them, and they sound good, and don't seem like something that would annoy the floor-mates.

Any input would be much appreciated, because I have pretty good Iem's, but they arent comfortable enough to wear all day...

As a fellow uni student, I highly recommend over ear headphones, purely because of their ability to block out noise, which can be a god send if you are trying to work. Also, I find that my speakers end up getting nicked for parties and stuff, so I never use them unless there is nobody in the dorm. Just my two cent :)

It might be hard to sneak bookshelf speakers into the dorm rooms just for the fact that they sort of look like subs, and ssort of look like something that would be a menace.

Technically it would be allowed, but it might be a stretch, which is why I was looking at toilet paper sized speakers

use the sub but put it through an EQ on your PC to reduce the bass.

The sub I have right now has a knob for bass, but since subwofers are explicitly banned, I doubt they would buy it... I could try, but its pretty big, and wouldn't really fit in my suitcase

get decent headphones, your neighbors will hate you less.

Since I wear glasses, most headphones put pressure on it making it uncomfortable for prolonged use. Just because of that fact, I've been more of a speaker guy, and if I need portability, I tend to lean towards iem's

i'm a glasses wearer as well, and i barely feel pressure with my hyperx clouds.

just get headphones with soft padding.

I already have the corsair vengeance 2000's. Would you say that the hyperx cloud II, would be worth the investment, or would it not be much better in regards to the sound quality?

To me, they sound pretty good, but I just prefer the open nature of speakers for extended listening sessions...
