I am planning to make the most expensive purchase of my life. I have ~$1k USD to spend on a monitor. I have one 390x watercooled in my build. Do I want freesync? Do I want a high framerate? Do I want a high resolution? The high resolution acer curved 34in freesync looks nice but it is only 75hz. I have my existing monitor overclocked to 75 hz right now and it doesnt look hugely different.

Once you go 144 you never go back.

a 60-75hz 1440p with freesync would be amazing and a 390x could drive that well

but 75hz 1080p really didnt seem like a huge improvement

IDK

I personally prefer monitors under 27". That's just me though.

If you could swing an IPS 144Hz monitor of your choice of res, that would most likely be the best option.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

IMO it depends on what games you play, if your into competitive shooters id go for a higher framerate.  If youre into games where super high framerates dont really matter as much maybe go for a higher resolution.

But like AlexisWiiu said, once you go 144Hz you dont go back  ;)

Are you doing any kind of work that would benefit from a higher resolution and better panel, like video editing?

If so, then I can recommend easily a higher resolution and a good IPS panel.

I love my ultra-wide LG for Photoshop.

If you simply play games then you should definitly get a high refreshrate panel with free-sync. Probably 27 inch 1440p. That's just a great size and resolution for gaming.

Here are all the 1440p 144Hz FreeSync panels that are currently available:

is there any 34in 144hz freesyncs?

No there isn't, at least not at 3440x1440, only at 2560x1080 will there be some at 144Hz, like the BenQ XR3501 or the upcoming Acer z35, but even still none yet with freesync :c

i would personally go a 1440p monitor over 144hz 1080p monitor.

With a 1K budget he could easily get both in one.

I forgot to mention that I am only looking into ultrawides right now. I dont think I could get three 16:9 freesync monitors

I kinda have a similar view and dont feel like spending over 1k on a monitor, preferably less... but there you go.

75hz is too little imo.

Im either getting this http://www.144hzmonitors.com/monitors/acer-xz350cu-35-inch-ultrawide-144hz-va-freesync-monitor/

or waiting for more competition for this same exact panel, cuz AUO optronics are printing them out now and everyone is gona have their model in half a year.

It might seem expensive @ release, but it will quickly drop... they wont be selling that resolution for over 1k.

Oh, and using the highest VSR i can. With 5120x2160 super sampling should look CLOSE to what real 3440x1440 would look like. Just raising the sharpness a little bit in games is enough for me. Desktop can only be MORE comfortable with a low pixel density imo. And the 144hz ... you get the 144hz on a 34" widescreen... tahts just divine.
