So im strongly considering a move to x99 as im starting to edit/render larger and larger videos more and more frequently and have some spare change lying around. However my question is will there be a Skylake-E variant for the x99 platform, also will these still be compatible with 2011-3 socket or introduce a new socket like normal skylake did to motherboards?

I expect them to move to a new platform seeing as DDR4 support for Haswell-E had to be a bit forgiving, whereas Skylake supports full-throttle DDR4 and also supports almost as many PCIe Gen 3 lanes (combined from the PCH and CPU) as the Haswell-E flagships. Along with a lot of other nik-naks like that.

expect skylake-E to release around christmas time or a bit after that and will be compatible with x99 socket 2011-3.

Skylake-E will not compatible with s. 2011-3

source?

that would be an incredible kick in the crouch to enthusiast who've just built on X99 platform...that socket 2011-3 MUST support AT LEAST 2 generations of CPU's...so you'd think Broadwell-E would be a thing and would release for 2011-3?! ...

I mean there was Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge-E and Haswell-E so most likely. But we're not fortune tellers or someone who plans at Intel

Haswell and Broadwell are the same architecturally with broad well simply being a die shrink. So Z97 mobos were upgraded to support broad well.

By this same token X99 mobos can be updated to support broad well-e.

Skylake has the fully integrated voltage regulator (FIVR) removed and replaced on the mobo. So a completely new mobo is required for skylake and skylake-e.

The only issue is that although the mainstream and enthusiast chips are built using the architecture, the actual die design is completely different so it's unknown if intel will even bother creating a broadwell-e.
