Finding Operating Voltage of RAM on a Macbook Pro

Go to solution Solved by Baze_Ezra,

I just did a quick google search, first result links to: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4256834

The google search also gave an answer in big at the top of the page of 1.5volts (Source: https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=macbook%20pro%20ram%20voltage&es_th=1 )

Hope this information helps.

I'm looking to upgrade the amount of RAM in my MacBook Pro. Model #: MC723LL/A But I can't find the for sure operating voltage of the RAM inside of it. I will open it up and look inside for some clues if I have to but I don't reaalllly want to do that if I don't have to. I tried finding some kind of CPU-Z for Mac but I was unsuccessful. Thanks guys.

just get 1333MHz DDR3 SO-DIMMs ... any should work fine

Yes I've put in DDR3 SO-DIMMs, Mac memory on Newegg but it's still giving me the option of 1.35V or 1.5V. I really want to make sure because the last time I upgraded RAM in my other laptop, the voltage discrepancy caused random shut offs because it was 1.5V when I needed 1.35V (even though HP did a HORRIBLE, and incorrect, job of denoting this in the manual).

well if you want to get absolutely certain just order from OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/1333DDR3S16P/ ... they are selling 1.5V DIMMs

Try looking at teardows of your model, and looking at the pics of the ram.

This bodes well, thanks.

Definitely! Thanks.

it just doesn't matter.

both 1.3V and 1.5V dimms should work fine.

Well perhaps not, but like I said, the other time I did it, it did matter so I would rather check.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

afaik the 2011 Macbook Pro doesn't support DDR3L (i.e. running RAM at 1.35V)

BUT all those DDR3L HAVE TO (by specification) work with 1.5V as well.

that is why there won't be a problem with DDR3L sticks in your Macbook.

Both DDR3L (1.35V) and DDR3 (1.5V) will work.

The standard dimms for the 2011 Macbook Pros are of the 1.5V kind ;)

The 2012 Macbook Pros are the first to support DDR3L, but they also run perfectly with DDR3 dimms ;)
