Which GTX 970 or R9 390 should I get based on these prices?

Basically you're putting words into my mouth just for the sake of justifying that benchmark? Good lord...

Like you've been doing for me? You always assumed way too much from what I've said and continue to do that!

I ended up ordering the Sapphire Nitro R9 390 for $436 from Newegg.ca just fyi. The GTX 970s from MSI and Gigabyte are still $440 after mail-in rebate. I probably would have bought one of them instead if they were around $420.

i5-4690K@4.5 GHz // Asus Z87-Pro // HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3-1600 // Crucial BX100 250GB // Sapphire Nitro R9 390 // EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2 // Fractal Design Define S // be quiet! Pure Rock & Pure Wings 2 // BenQ XL2730Z // Corsair Vengeance K70 // Logitech G403 Wireless // Sennheiser HD 598 SE

Just stop it already, falsely accusing someone doesn't make things better for you. I'll end this discussion here.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

Thank you. I don't appreciate your overbearing assumptions and I'm glad to see it stop. You have distracted from this thread and it didn't help anyone!

Have you taken a look at MSI Gaming 970s or G1 970s? They usually at the very least overclock to 1500mhz and most likely get somewhere between 1550-1600 mhz...at those speeds the Nvidia card will beat a 390. And it isn't rare to see those overclocks at all. The only 970 cards I see that low is EVGA SSC's and cheap vendors which is why I warn against those.

As for 390 ocs I see a lot of less than 1200mhz ocs on overclock.net

My 970 gaming sits comfortably at 1554mhz, and so does my friend's G1 970. You have to be unlucky to not reach 1500mhz+ with max voltage (very safe). The 390 can oc to 1200ish, very good clocks.
