Any real benefit of getting a Asus Z-87/97 WorkStation board?

I've been pretty curious about the Asus Workstation motherboards.

What makes the them so much different from the other Asus motherboards?

I also noticed the price is pretty high on the Workstation board compared to the other motherboards they sell.

If anyone can explain the real difference that would be great! (I almost got one but the price was just to much)

Thanks!

Not really for the average consumer IMO.

Apparently they somewhat guarantee support for weird things that may not be compatible with other motherboards.  Raid cards, red-rocket cards and stuff.  I believe they also have higher quality components.

Linus explained some of it in his WS reviews, not sure which one though.

Stuff:  i7 7700k @ (dat nibba succ) | ASRock Z170M OC Formula | G.Skill TridentZ 3600 c16 | EKWB 1080 @ 2100 mhz  |  Acer X34 Predator | R4 | EVGA 1000 P2 | 1080mm Radiator Custom Loop | HD800 + Audio-GD NFB-11 | 850 Evo 1TB | 840 Pro 256GB | 3TB WD Blue | 2TB Barracuda

They are usually more reliable

And better multi-GPU support (i think), the X99-WS for example can run quad SLI with all four PCIE lanes running at x16

Okay that makes sense!

More reliable and more features and better support?

Yeah essentially.

It's not necessarily useful for an average consumer, or even a "pro-sumer" for that matter.  It's kinda a server board, without buying a server board so to speak.

I thought about getting the Z-87 WS board but wasn't really sure if it would benefit me in anyway.

As for the price it was $120.

Seeing as you already have a perfectly good board, I don't see the point :P
