Netbooks are for people who move around a lot, although tablets are probably a better choice now they are still used a lot.

I have a Netbook that I bought when I was in college for $100. It's good for emails and browsing the internet, that's about it. Fortunately internet and emails are what 90% of PC users do...

CPU: i9-13900k MOBO: Asus Strix Z790-E RAM: 64GB GSkill  CPU Cooler: Corsair H170i

GPU: Asus Strix RTX-4090 Case: Fractal Torrent PSU: Corsair HX-1000i Storage: 2TB Samsung 990 Pro

Yep netbooks were great, and live on with the HP stream, 2 in one tablets, the Surface, and chromebooks

I had to get one of THEIR Dell Latitude 2120

A dell 2120 never cost $1000, you were just overcharged

http://uk.pcmag.com/dell-latitude-2120/20269/review/dell-latitude-2120 - says it cost $629 - and that is overpriced, plus school will get bulk and educational discount which can be like 30% or more

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

Yep. I was looking at some tablets until a buddy offered to sell me the netbook. Does everything I need from it and was cheap. I still use it for my couch internet surfing if I want a larger screen than my phone. I even put windows 10 on it last week. It's great.

I still have the EEE 701 4gb, the netbook that started off netbooks - runs HL1 and Solider of Fortune  - still have them installed from when I used to take this thing to school :D its running Windows XP Fundamentals which is like a hacked super lightweight XP install - its great

I mean I would consider the new HP stream a netbook, it runs windows, its small, it costs very little, great for students, parents, second machines, light users

Sweet! Netbooks (and similar low power machines) are all about managed expectations. Stay in their area of use and they will be awesome.

I liked Fundamental for Legacy PS's, but it wasn't used much.

My school just through out the computers running 98 instead of coughing up the probably $25 per PC for 6 computer.

THEY HAD P4's and 512mbs of Ram and a Geforce 2.

They could have run Normal XP Pro

Very expensive, most netbooks back then were half that price, I imagine the school got a good deal from Dell, but charged the students full price - I imagine they bought them because you can get charging racks and accessories etc for the school

install Half life and be happy

It should have been, was very fast, and more functional than the shitty linux install that came on the EEE

No, the school charged the students full price.

The school was getting them for dirt.

Dell just sold the computers to the school and repaired each computer about 5 times a year (Mostly cracked screens or Bad HDD's)

Yeah thats what I would imagine

Me and my friends all had EEE 701s, 2 black and 2 white, we all swapped batteries and keyboard to have two tone machines :D - we used to play Halo CE mutliplayer on them at lunch time via local network

You got screwed, that doesn't make Netbooks useless.

I have to use it because Harvey Norman (A computer store)

HAS THE INABILITY TO FIX COMPUTERS PROPERLY.

(My computer went in with a bad battery and came out with no screws and a broken trackpad)

YAY Now instead of using a quadcore a10 w/ dedicated graphics, I am using a Dualcore atom running 7 PRO w/ 2gbs of ram (Because my school is full of smart ideas)

I know.

AND THE NEXT YEAR WAS "Bring Your Own Device"

Thankyou, I have wasted $1,000 on a netbook that was to be used untill the end of year 9 to find out i only need to use it for 1 year instead of 3.
