This is my build that I have listed, noted I haven't baught any parts. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nLdpvK. Yes it is cheap and that is the point.

Another question I'm not so happy about the case, as it doesn't have great cable management. Can any suggest a case that is the same price and maybe has better cable management, also it would be fine if it looked better but not a necessity

I don't think any case at that price will give you many cable management options.

And as to gaming, my friend has that CPU and GPU, and he is quite desperate to upgrade, especially the GPU.

I'm not planning on doing major gaming, so it should be fine. But yea case wise cable management won't be great

IMO I have a friend who has the 6300 and he loves it... The only problem I can see is the GPU...

Reckon you could push that up to something better? Like an r9 280? Mine is overclocked and runs everything like a breeze (eg witcher 3 medium 1080p 60fps)

What's nice about this config: you have the option to upgrade an i5 or even an i7 broadwell CPU (1150 socket basically) and the i3 is a good CPU for light gaming on low to medium settings for about any game. Also, the GPU is good enough to run a lot of games on low or even medium in 1080p @60hz.

I think there are far better options for you to choose from.

Have you thought about tracking down a used 270x, or something like that? You'll get vastly superior performance.

You could get an Athlon 860K + 750 Ti - better value.

Ehhh the 750Ti is still a pretty weak card compared to it's AMD equivalents.

As much as I would like to do that the Athlons don't have barely any upgrade path so if I wanted to upgrade later on I would need a new motherboard

Neither does the FX. Unless you're doing editing you won't really see a huge increase from the higher end chips.

Also worth noting you're buying 3 or 4 year old socket? It's basically dead.

An Intel socket would at least give you the chance to upgrade to an i5, or i7 with significant performance benefits.

If you expanded your budget you'd be much better off with a GTX 960

you mean 380, right? 960 is weaker and more expensive
