So I finally finished my first build. It's a gaming rig, I do NO video editing, rendering, or transcoding, so before someone tells me I should have gotten an i7-4770k, I just don't need it. I do want to know what you think of the build, and if there were different choices you would make under the assumption that all you're doing is gaming.

CPU: AMD FX 8350 OC to 4.6 GHZ (cooled by a Corsair H80)
MB: ASROCK 990FX Extreme 3 AM3+ Motherboard
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance (Black) 1600 MHZ C9 Latency
GPU: EVGA SC GTX 780 ACX Cooling Edition
SSD: Sandisk Extreme 120 GB (boot drive)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB (most games and videos)
ODD: LG Blu Ray Drive
PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty 750w 80PLUS Bronze Fully Modular Power Supply
CASE: NZXT PHANTOM 410 (BLACK)
KB: Logitech G710+ with Cherry MX Brown Switches
MOUSE: Logitech G700s Wireless Gaming Mouse

Using a 42 inch 1080p HDTV for the monitor, and the Klipsch 2.1 speaker setup for the audio.

Basically, I didn't skimp anywhere that I cared about, I didn't go crazy on any single part, with exception to my GPU, and I think the build is pretty good for a first FINALIZED build. But hey, I'd love some constructive feedback!

I like it a lot, but just one small thing: If you use your SSD just as a boot drive, why didnt you just go with a 64gig model? Otherwise seems really good :)

PC Specs:  2x GTX 550 ti in SLI - Intel i7 2600k @ 3.4Ghz - Thermaltake Overseer Case - 8 GB Corsair Vengeance Ram - 1TB Harddrive - 500 Watt PSU that came with my old prebuilt pc lawl -  ASUS P8P67 EVO

Peripherals:  Razer Deathadder Black Edition - Razer Arctosa Keyboard - Logitech G53 Headset

Cool song of the day: Chief Keef - Round da Rosey    Changed my profile pic again...                                        Mountain Dew is good. So are video games and music. Oh and unicorns.

why do you need 16gb's of ram?

Long story short, originally I got 16 because I was going to make a ramdisk for SWTOR, a game that's notorious for some poor page optimization, but once I actually got the SSD, it fixed almost all of my issues with the game. So honestly, I don't need 16 GB of ram anymore, but I'm not going to return the other two dimms.

As for why I went with something larger than a 64 gig model: I put my two favorite games on my SSD in addition to the OS, whereas my steam library is on the Caviar Black. I wouldn't have the room for the OS and SWTOR and BF3 if it were just a 64 gig drive. Another reason was that the drive was on sale for 80 dollars at my local microcenter when I bought it. Couldn't pass it up at that price.

That's a very solid build; I don't see anything wrong with it.

The only changes I might have made were going for 8 GB RAM instead of 16 GB and getting a different case (I hate the way the NZXT Phantoms look). But that's just me.

The RAM decision I answered before, and is a valid comment to make. As for the Phantom, my reasoning was fairly simple. It gives me the cooling and cable management options I need, in a form factor I like, and I didn't have to spend near 200 dollars for it. AT THE TIME, I was unwilling to spend 200 on a comparable Corsair case that I loved. Now if I did it, I might get an 900D, but not for any REAL reasons. Just aesthetic minimalism and a little more cable management room behind the motherboard tray. I can say that I love the blue LED case fans that came with my Phantom 410. It lights up the case very well. In addition, my OCZ PSU has Red LED's in it, making the bottom-back of my case look like an ambient exhaust. Pretty neat. I can totally appreciate if somebody doesn't like the look of the phantoms. It's very polarizing. It just reminded me of the old Area 51 Alienware desktops that I used to salivate over in middle school. A little nostalgia never hurt anybody!

Pictures?

I will be cleaning my case in the next few days to get it all pretty for build pictures. You'll understand if I want to clean up the cable management a bit, I'm sure. Random additional thought, but when I saw your avatar image of Logan I was like LOGAN WANTS BUILD PICTURES? I SHALL ACQUIESCE TO THIS REQUEST, POST HASTE! Then logic kicked in and I was like, "That's an avatar, calm down." Regardless, build pics in the next few days.

If your going to game, don't get a wireless mouse.

The G700s also has a wired option, via usb cable, and I am currently using it as a wired mouse. I bought the mouse for the outstanding ergonomics for my comically large hands.

Then buy a wired mouse that fits your hands well. Otherwise you'll notice the difference and the little lag will piss you off later with a wireless mouse.

you did see the part where I said quite clearly where you can use it as a wired mouse, right? I'm not using it wirelessly.

But the G700s has a slip issue with it's firmware. I would say G400 is better. But it's up to you.

you're referencing the issue with the laser, correct? The issue actually was fixed after the first few runs of the product. (Logan from Tek Syndicate made a video talking about this exact thing you're bringing up. As for the 400? I just don't like it. I don't have a rock solid reason not to, but I just don't like it. You're giving solid suggestions, though, so I appreciate the feedback.

For gaming, the 8350 would not benefit much over the 8320 as it's just a higher binned version of it.

Would've gone with cheaper ram. Any CL9 1600 ram would've done.

2 7970's for more power since it's strictly gaming.

The Extreme is not a good ssd in comparison to the samsung 840. Would've went with the 840 instead. To match the 840, you'd need the Extreme II.

No need for caviar black when you have an ssd. A caviar blue or barracuda would've done.

Bluray drives are  waste of money for most cases.

850w bronze instead for 7970/8320 OC room.

Original Phantom or other windowed case since 410's build quality is a bit subpar compared to the original.

Same keyboard--I have it myself. G9x for mouse--same reason.

27" 1440p IPS panel and two more portrait 23" 1080p IPS panels. A single 7970/770 would max out pretty much everything at 1080p. 1080p is a waste for anything more such as the 780.

Include dedicated sound and ...some sort of speakers--would depend on pricing and the audiophile section's opinion.
