I recently installed Skyforge to try it out and I really enjoy it. I was monitoring my Afterburner readings though and the game rarely surpasses 65-70% GPU usage even though my GPU is clearly being stressed (980ti). What's more is my FPS drops like an absolute rock any time there are a lot of other human players around me. Obviously not every game will use 100% GPU power all the time, but other games that are equally stressful hover around 90-95%.

Does anyone who has experience with the game know why this could be? Is it the driver? Is Skyforge not well optimized at this point in time?

Do you have V-Sync enabled? You may also be encountering a frame rate limit.

Vsync is enabled but I have a 144Hz monitor and I never hit that limit.

What frame rate do you achieve in Skyforge?

Anywhere from 60-110, with 85 being the average. It varies depending on how pretty the surrounding area is and how many human players are around.

110 seems like a strange frame rate limit. When your frame rate drops, what happens to GPU usage and clock speed? What CPU do you have?

I mean I can get up to 144 but that's only if I'm staring at a blank wall or something. When my framerate plummets my GPU usage hovers around 50% and my clock speed actually goes down by about 300 MHz. This is dumb though becuase in other areas I get much higher GPU usage and much higher framerates for areas that should be mor eintensive. I have no idea why the presence of other players tanks my framerate so much.

@Godlygamer23

I did some additional testing and my findings are:

I get a consistet 95-100% GPU usage and very smoothe framerates (constant 90+, rarely drops) in instanced dungeons.

I get jumpy framerates (60-85, minor stuttering, sudden spikes and drops) and about 65% GPU usage in the open quest areas of the game.

I get awful framerates (40-50), 50% GPU usage and GPU downclocking in the main hub of the game where many players gather.

I have a 4790k btw.

The drivers may be to blame or the game could be the issue. Since you have V-Sync enabled, perhaps you can try disabling it.

Vsync doesn't matter since I have Gsync anyway. Turns out I had my nvidia control panel set to quality mode. Switching it to performance mode gave me an FPS increase, but my FPS in that area is still the lowest in the game by far. I posted on the Skyforge forums to see if anyone knows why this happens, but it seems to be happening to everyone.

That is surprising because Skyforge is a very GPU heavy game, but it also isn't very optimized, my FPS always tanks.  That being said, my 290 is at 99-100% at all times usually.  I haven't had a game get my card this hot in awhile 82 Celcius during the summer is bad news bear

What's your CPU usage?

 One of my cores jumps up to about 85% usage when I'm in the hub, but my other cores are fine. The game obviously cannot support multicore well. A bottleneck is only defined to be in effect if my usage is at 100% constantly though correct?

Game is in DX9 btw. I didn't know decade-old technology was still popular >_> not that DX11 would really help that much either
