with the side panel off you get lower temperatures, more noise, more dust, and usually worse looks

No side panel = not so much airflow. With high pressure fans you might get some of air actually close to coolers. Good option only if you have older case and stock cooling.

@LoGiCalDrm so if I have relativly new case then taking my side panel off just makes my case fans more or less usless.

 

Yeah. And bigger the case, more useless the fans. Unless you are using high power air pressure ones.
