Scouten

A huge performance different like... an insane performance difference. I think the 980ti uses more power than 780 but, theoretically speaking the 980ti is just a titan x with 6gb for less money.

SLI doesnt always scale perfectly

a single card is better in most cases

Yes it is. I said theoretically as in basically. Im not saying they're exactly 1:1 performance from both of these cards im saying that it comes very close to performing to a titan x.

And what single card could equal 980 ti in sli? That's what op is looking for.

Watch JayzTwoCents' comparisons; they're more revealing. Clock for clock the Titan X is faster.

Heyyo,

been out of the loop for several months how much of a performance difference will there be and how big of a difference would i get in terms of power usage?

Using Two-Way SLI setup with "EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Superclocked ACX" shows an estimated 500 Watts (not including the rest of a PC)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LZsHNG

Using Two-Way SLI setup with "EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB ACX 2.0+" also shows an estimated 500 Watts (again, not including rest of a PC)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qdJHZL

So power usage should be about the same.

As for performance? Hmm I found this GTX 780 SLI vs GTX 980 SLI..

http://www.tweaktown.com/tweakipedia/54/geforce-gtx-980-sli-vs-gtx-780-sli-at-2560x1440/index.html

And then I found this which has GTX 980 SLI vs GTX 980 Ti SLI...

http://www.tweaktown.com/tweakipedia/92/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-sli-4k-surround-6480x3840/index.html

So a GTX 980 SLI is about 10% faster than your setup, and a GTX 980 Ti SLI setup is about 20% faster than that... so it's somewhere about 20% to 30% faster rig than yours.... of course, that only matters if you're pushing 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 screen resolutions. If you're sticking with 1920x1080? I'd keep the GTX 780 SLI setup for now until future products release.

780 SLI is probably in the ballpark of the performance of a single 980 Ti, since 970 SLI is and the 780 and 970 seem to perform similarly.

thanks yeah i run 1440 as a minimum looking into getting a secondary 4k panel need more vram and raw power

prob wont be upgrading in the near future as the only thing that's really stressing my system is The Witcher 3

in terms of power i am drawing just over 900-1000w from the wall so wanted to try and drop that a bit but if it wouldn't change that's fine too i guess

Heyyo,

Glad to help! Yeah for 4K the 3GB GTX 780 will probably struggle as even at 1920x1080 I have problems with my GTX 680 2GB VRAM Two-Way SLI setup... I run out of VRAM before I run out of GPU useage on GTA V, Dying Light, Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. :P
