So, in preparation for the Cooler comparison thread which I delayed for various reasons I decided to loop Unigine Valley for about 10 minutes and see the temps in an open case.

GPU core maxed out at 61*C
GPU VRM1 maxed out at 66*C
GPU VRM2 maxed out at 26*C
Fans were at 20% still I believe
Ambient temperature is about 20*C

When the case is closed I got
GPU core at 68*C
GPU VRM1 at 73*C
GPU VRM2 at 26*C
Fans at 35%
Ambient remains the same

My question is, is it really normal for the VRM1 to be reading higher temps than the core? Asking since when I first got the card I believe I was getting slightly lower or identical temps while in game but I did run furmark for an hour (i know, dumb) after that and I was wondering whether it could have decreased the efficiency of the VRMs by so much? Or I might have just not been paying enough attention or maybe the card was brand new and unused. Not sure. I've been told that furmark get's throttled by the GPU automatically and I've not really noted instability or artifacting. I've asked around (people who know a LOT more than me and work in IT) and they've told me it's unlikely I've damaged anything but just figured I'd post this here as well.

VRM's are fine;

they normally run hotter, and are capable of running hotter ( over 100°c compared to ~85°c for the core )

I should also note that under light load temperatures remain the same as 6 months ago.

VRM's can run hotter, as there aren't billions of transistors switching on and off constantly. There's less to go wrong.

So the 73-74*C on the VRMs under load with a closed case is fine? I haven't broken it via furmark :/?

The VRM temps are good. My Asus 280Х always shows 26 degrees on VRM2 too. I'm wondering whether the sensor is bad or it just doesn't heat up?

From what I've read VRM2 supplies power only to the memory and thus doesn't really heat up at all. What are your core and VRM1 temps btw?

Temps when playing Witcher 3 for example are around 75 on the core and a few degrees less on the VRM at 43% fan speed. I don't check VRM temps often so I can tell you exactly. My ambient is fairly high at 26-27 degrees.

So essentially the same if you factor in the ambient temp being about 7*C above mine. But you say your VRMs are cooler? What cooler is that?

Would it bee too much to ask if you could check what the VRM1s reach after 10 mins ingame?

Afaik temps below 90 degrees on the VRMs are considered safe. You have nothing to worry about. :)

True and your fans seem to be running at higher RPMs. might be a thing but okay. I guess I didn't manage to break the VRMs but I won't be using furmark again, that's for sure.

Ran around Novigrad for about 10 mins and got 69*C on the core and 71*C on VRM1 and 27*C on VRM2. Also set everything to medium and vsync off and I was getting 50 fps - same as with everything on low and vsync on. Eh, newest patch is weird. Also weird that I have the game minimized yet it's still running GPU @ 100% load.

Hey, agruably hottest VRM_1 on LLT here,

It's not unusual for mine to get 129*C after that it reboots the system to prevent permament damage  B)

I use to have 2 intake fans in the front pointed at the VRMs, do you think that might have affected temps in some way (sorry for being so annoying)

I have removed my upper hdd cage and moved the front intake fan higher so it can blow air directly to the card and I haven't found any significant difference in temps. My Define R4 is in stock configuration with 1 intake and 1 exhaust.

I got 1 intake at the back and 2 exhaust at the front - stock silencio cheapo fans. One might actually be dying as it's getting louder but eh, case fans, not important :D

Idk, still, I guess I might have put a bit too much load on the VRMs via furmark so now they run a bit hotter but I guess it should still be perfectly fine at those temps.

EDIT: Actually come to think of it, @ 60% load VRMs are 2*C cooler. Odd.
