Either way your temps are alright. I was a huge paranoid about temps when I've got my 280X because it was my first card to exceed 70 degrees during load (previous one was a weak GTX 650 Ti). But never ever run Furmark unless you have a real reason of doing that. Heaven and Valley are enough for testing temps and overclocks imo. :)

Hah, yeah, I learned my lesson about Furmark.

Hmmmm, I just ran Valley for a good 15 minutes and both temperatures seemed to be within 1*C of each other @70 and 71 on core and vrm respectively. That seems to match pretty well with what I use to get before, or so I believe. At any rate, for 100% load in a closed case with poor airflow I can't expect more really and that's honestly not bad.

I use to have 2 intake fans in the front pointed at the VRMs, do you think that might have affected temps in some way (sorry for being so annoying)

Oh wow, that's on a 280? the XFX one?

XFX 290 DD Black

early revision :) it's fixed in revision 3 and later, I have an "OK" from XFX to claim the replace but I would have to wait for 30 days or more, so I didn't bother

Why not? It will definitely be worth if you ask me. But 30 days is quite a bit of time :/

are you sure it's not the max time specified?

If I do it with XFX directly I have to pay for shipping and it's 30 days minimum

If I do it with my retailer they do it for free with up to 30 days, but knowing the retailer it'll probably be 30 days and then they will make excuses (: they already made me wait 3 weeks more than originally estimated when I order it.

And it's no biggy for me, most of the times doesn't exceed 121*C and as long as it doesn't reboot, it doesn't bother me.

If I see it go to 125*C I just alt-tab of game for a minute or two and go grab a glass of water.

I don't want to RMA it right now because I have X99 without an iGPU or any other GPU, so that would make the PC unusable and I can live with it until I find a good deal on Fury X. After that I'm selling my 290 to a friend who will do the RMA if he deems it necesary.

Enough about me, what's your story?

I posted here just to asure you that your VRM temps are "fine".

Yes high temperatures do degrade electrical circutry but they have to be extremely high for extremely long periods of time to make an efffect.

Manufacturers do take it into account and will implement safety features like downclocking the core (or like in my case rebooting the system when reaching 130*C on VRM_1) long before any permament damage may occur.

Nowadays you are safe to boot into windows on Intel CPUs without a heatsink as Linux does in numerous of his videos recently.

Eh, I bought a new PSU since my old one was thermaltaky and the place stress tested with furmark for about an hour to make sure it's all good and since they my VRM temps have been 2-4*C higher. I've read that furmark can degreade VRMs efficiency but it may also be the swapped fan orientation. Before I had 2 intakes next to it giving it fresh cold air now they are exhausting hot air from the case and there's only 1 intake. So yeah. I was worried whether the VRM1 being warmer is normal and honestly, from what people have told me of temps, might be the fans change since before there was a lot more cool air.

I think so too honestly. Since with valley i got almost identical temps I am inclined to believe the fans are the reason for the lower temps before :D
