Hello

My gaming headset died a few days ago and I'm looking for something new right now. I don't play that long on pc yet, so my headset is one I used before pc-gaming on my ps3. I've been reading on on the internet about a new one for my pc. The most recommended gaming headset with a built-in mic is the hyperx cloud 2. But there's a lot of people say it's better to buy some decent headphones and a separate mic. What do you guys recommend? My budget is around 100 euros.

Thanks

Probably would look at the HD 558 and a zalman clip on mic or mod mic if you can afford it.

Don't listen to this guy, he doesn't know what he's talking about and only out to waste you're money.

Thanks for the tip, but the HD 558 is out of my budget, unfortunately.

What is the point of getting a headset with built-in mic and a separate mic? The reason why they recommend separate headphones and mic is because those gaming haedsets with built-in mic's don't have the best audio quality. Or am I wrong?

my point is. you dont HAVE to use the mic on the g430. i recommend headsets because of the sound quality not the mic quality

there's no point you're wasting you're money also the g430 is really bad. Also you are right, most gaming headset's are bad, people like him don't have any experience and want to seem smart so they blurt out random suggestions that don't make any sense. Why would you buy a headset with a mic and then get another mic, complete waste of money, and a crappy headset on top of that!

I know it's over your budget op but that's probably the best option. If not a pair of hyperx is fine, it's essentially a pair of tasktar pro 80 with a mic attached and sold for the same price.

its got great sound quality for the price. i beleive everyone got confused when i post that. certain people got pissed off at me

certain people get mad at you because headsets don't have good sound quality, period. Unless you're talking about headsets from Beyer, sennheiser, and AT, you'll find poor sound quality. Not to mention, even with the brads above, you can easily get the headphones they're based on, and a modmic for less. G430 are crap. If you're going to get a headset for $100, just get the clouds. They're better than most headphone/mics for the same price anyway.

Let us be honest here, many people won't even care. So many people just jump on the gaming headset hating bandwagon.

is the sound from gaming headsets worse than those of more expensive solutions? Yes. Should people that are not audiophiles care? No. As long as the audio isn't incredibly unbalanced it's fine for most people. Voice comms aren't high quality, and many games don't even have that high quality audio, especially not indies. If you're someone who owns a ton of FLAC's, you probably should buy a good pair of headphones to listen to those anyway.

If they don't care then just buy whatever their gamer mom/cat/friends are using, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't suggest what we think is a good purchase for the price. If someone is tech savvy enough to browse this forum I'm sure they would want what's best for their money.

My point is that this discussion is focusing too much on audio quality, and not enough on other important aspects of a headset.

Sure, audio quality is nice, but comfort is arguably more important for lengthier gaming sessions. Not to mention durability, looks, build quality, whether or not it has audio controls, ...

Yes, recommending what's best is the entire point, but being the best in one category doesn't mean anything if all the rest isn't any good. I wouldn't want a fantastic sounding headset if it hurt like hell after wearing it for 30 minutes.

You're making it sounds like people are neglecting all of those points when suggesting headphones as well as the people who designed them, that's not true at all. If someone wants to place a priority on a specific feature, they should/would have asked.

other than looks (which is more subjective than sound, by a lot) hyperx is as good as anything in the price range, if not significantly better, so what's your point? Also, you can't tell the difference between flac and mp3.

no, YOU don't hear the difference, and neither do I (nor did I ever claim to be able to), unless in an A-B Test. There are people who CAN hear the difference though. It's pretty easy once you get used to listening to FLAC and if you have access to the right equipment, which I don't have either.

Claiming that hearing the difference between FLAC and MP3 isn't possible is like claiming you can't see the difference between huffyuf and h.264, or between 30 and 60 fps.

My point, again, was that this discussion was a bit one-sided in the end. I felt that other aspects of a headset were not taken into consideration enough, and that too much emphasis was put on audio quality alone.

That's not true at all, 320kpbs vs FLAC is not as easy as the two examples you listed. This has been discussed and tested many times on head-fi with trained ears and good equipments, only a few would be able to detect the difference consistently by repeating the same song dozen of times.
