Upgrade or Build New?

I'm currently debating on either upgrading my current system (bought from a pc building site), or just going and building a new one all together.

 

My current specs are:

 

CPU - AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor

Cooling - Stock

GPU - AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

Motherboard - Asus m5a97 r2.0

HDD - 2TB Toshiba

RAM - 2x 4GB G.Skills Ripjaws

OS - Windows 7 Home Premium

Power Supply - 400w

Case - NZXT Source 210 Mid-Tower

I'm not completely sold on whats in the parts list and wouldn't mind some suggestions.

 

 

I've never built my own pc before, but have assisted a friend in building his.  I'm in the Southern US and have a budget of around $1,000.  Main uses of the computer is MMO gaming/ some FPS gaming.

Keep the ram and HDD. If you want more ram just buy another 4x2 kit of the exact same ram

Would the 400w power supply still be sufficient enough to power the system?

I'd get a new one, give me a minute to put something together in PPP,

What case do you have? Or do,you not like it.

Get Intel CPU 4690K alongside w/ a Z97 (ATX or mITX if you're on a budget) board. The CPU supports Iris so u def won't need an ext GPU unless u game. Also keep the PSU, RAM and hard drives and case. If it was me, I'd get an after market cooler but u can still use the one that comes w/ the PSU.

Cheapest way to upgrade that rig would be to buy a FX 8320e. SPECIFICALLY THE "e" version. As that can run off a 4+1 power delivery, unlike the normal 125w FX CPUs...

Then get a R9 280X...

 

That would be THE ABSOLUTE Cheapest upgrade.

Most games will not use more than 4 cores! But AAA titles often use 8 so upgrade to octa-core is a 50/50 so wait for DX12...
