Either go with a non-K i5 and an H97 motherboard or a 4690K and a Z97 Motherboard. Also, I suggest moving over to a micro ATX case and motherboard to save a bit of money that you can invest in either a better graphics card or an SSD.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

I wouldn't recommend the 4GB GTX 960, if you want more VRAM go with the R9 280X, it preforms better and is sexier too. By the way, why are you getting a Z97 motherboard if you can't overclock and buy an SSD if you can afford it, it will improve boot times and make your computer overall faster. (Still keep the hardrive)

By the way, salvage some parts from old computers, it really helps in builds.!

P.S Might need to get a better power supply if you go with a R9 280X.

P.S.S A good non-reference R9 280X card is the XFX Double Dissipation.  @calebw0103
