Thank you for any replies :)

the only thing you can concider an "upgrade" is selling your motherboard/cpu, and getting an intel cpu/matching board

I suggest saving then selling your mobo + CPU to get an Intel CPU. Not much performance gain from going up the AMD AM3+ socket ladder.

even if it weren`t ,i can only imagine what kind of mobo he has so don`t recommend fx 8xxx. neither fx 6300 couse an i3 is better

I am not really knowledgeable on budget workstation builds but aren't the AMD FX CPUs good for those kinds of builds (budget workstations)?

wth pentium with that budget ??

£200 fits an i5 now

You can overclock the G3258. at its maximum overclock, the 3258 stomps all over the FX4100 in every single case. It's more than a sufficient upgrade imho, and if OP wanted to upgrade further he could totally do that. With H series chipsets he'd be limited to locked processors with no OCing potential. In the long run the Pentium route would last longer. It's on par with an 8350 in gaming.

I would grab an FX 6300 or just overclock your current CPU and save up for Skylake or Zen. With your budget now jumping on the Intel bus would not be the best idea, save up an extra £100 and you will have better upgrade options :)

AM3+ Is dead now, go to intel

Dead hahahah, I don't think a platform is dead until absolutely no one in the world uses it anymore. You guys need to say correct terms like "AM3+ is an outdated platform" not "AM3+ is dead" cause by all means it is not dead, it is kicking ass for being around this long.

the pentium g3258 is the best for budget builds couse it can OC on all motherboards and it has an upgrade path. but thats for low budget ~100£ builds

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/kh9Wzy  .that includes z97 if he wants to get an i5 K later.

howerver cpu OC doesn`t do much at all for gaming so he can get the very good i5 4460 now with his budget.

also the pentium is not so good because the fps and gpu usage is all over the place. frame drops to 10-15fps and stuff.
