SG13 vs. SG05

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

I know everything about the SG05, and I know that with a mod you can stuff a reference 980/Ti/Titan X. The FT03 Mini is overpriced, and the case is much bigger than the SG05.

What do you love about the SG05 so much?

Honestly it sounds like you already know you want that case ;)

Also, the footprint of the FT03 on a desk is actually smaller by a substantial amount. The FT03 is actually only marginally bigger but allows for CF, more motherboards, etc.

Hey guys, while I'm waiting for someone to buy my parts on Craigslist, so I can get my new parts, I figured I should ask. I love the SG05, it's one of my favorite cases. It's smaller than the SG13, and looks a bit better IMO. The thing about it though is I would have to mod the case to fit my ATX PSU. Not a hard thing, but it will make it more difficult to build in, since it is smaller. Here is what I plan on going in:

Xeon E3-1231v3

AsRock H81M-ITX

16GB AData DDR3-1600MHz

MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB (later upgrading to a GTX 980)

Cooler Master Seidon 120V (stock cooler for now)

EVGA 400W ATX PSU

The cases are the same price, but is modding to fit an ATX PSU worth the slightly smaller size of the SG05? Let me know what I should go with. These two are my only real options, btw. Cheap and still my favorite cases. Not a fan of the length of the Cooler Master cases similar to these. Thanks!

Something to keep in mind is that the SG05 only fits a 10" graphics card.

Most newer cards, reference design are 10.5".

So you're likely going to need to mod to get that to fit.

Honestly, I'd just go with the SG13. They probably made the 13 for people who want better graphics power in a small case.

You'll barely notice the size difference between the two.

If you really want small, look at the FT03 Mini.

I've been dreaming about a build like this for a long ass time. Something so incredibly small yet very powerful.

The footprint is smaller, not the actually liter size. I don't know what it is about the SG05, it just looks really right to me, rounded off and nice and small. The SG13 is just a little too much like the rest. I think you're right, though. I think I do want the SG05, even if I have to mod it (there's fun in that too!).
