It's ok. It won't have my "It's awesome" Till most/all of the PC games are supported on Linux. And no, being emulated with WINE is not fully supported.

This is like asking, do you think screwdrivers are good.

for screwing yes, as a hammer no.

It depends. I've got one game that doesnt work very well in 64-bit under windows, but is plenty stable in Linux. Since the game can easily take over 4GB of RAM with enough mods. So... I'm running Linux.

However, its NOT user friendly... at all. Alot of stuff you need to look up to do.

Its good, you cant be a PC noob, you have to know things that your average Windows user wouldnt.

Also, support for it is still kinda out there, and it doesnt support a lot of things yet.

Once those things get solved, I will give Linux the GR8 R8

And ofc there are things that Linux is actually better for over Windows and OSX :)

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

I think its great, really wish a distro would replace Windows in terms of popularity.

Ubuntu is one, if not the most popular distro, the interface is just not user friendly, which is IMO one of the main things that is holding Linux back.

Which distro? I know some are more user friendly than others, Ubuntu, Mint?

but...but... I love unity... Lol. I do like it actually, still like the old gnome interface but I think that Unity is a much better than Metro in terms of being used on desktops, laptops, and tablets.

I always at least run a dual boot of Windows and linux on every computer, linux for me is not as much of an operating system for desktops as it is for servers and enterprise.  So, its not great if your on a desktop but since I'm a security researcher it is essentially priceless.

Its also much more stable than Windows, no matter how much someone argues.  Yes, you could argue that different distributions have to manage their own stability.  But, if we go to raw Debian for an example, one of the most stable Linux distributions ever, and CentOS, being based on RHEL.

Linux can run for years without a reboot.

That is not, not awesome.

Heyyo,

Linux? It's ok. The hardware support is lacking and is the only thing really holding it back tbh... well that, and OpenGL is holding back gaming in Linux.

Creative Sound Blaster Recon 3D... the 64bit kernel firmware loader has been broken forever yet works fine in 32bit... sigh. Crackling sound or no sound at all is not my idea of a fun time in Linux.

Killer 2100 PCI-E NIC... doesn't work at all. Then again, Linux has an efficient network stack so networking isn't an issue in Linux like it is on Windows.

Multi-GPU... that's what really kills Linux for me. OpenGL sucks... it sucks so much for anyone with a Multi-GPU PC Gaming rig. It just doesn't work under Linux on current versions of OpenGL... Khronos Group have been just ignoring us for the longest damn time... same problem occurs on Windows operating system too! Look at ID Tech 5 Engine games that use OpenGL... Wolfenstein: New Order, no Multi-GPU support... RAGE, no multi-GPU support... only The Evil Within works with Multi-GPU, but that's because it's a DirectX 11 only title. OpenGL is so crap that ID Software dropped it on The Evil Within! That's insane if you think about it, as ID Software have always backed OpenGL as their primary 3D API... but it just goes to show you how terrible it is compared to DirectX 11.

I just hope that Khronos Group doesn't screw up Vulkan... otherwise? Yet again I will not be a heavy user of Linux... probably just when I want to be anti-social and only load a webpage without logging into Windows 10 where I have a bunch of programs I use at auto start like Steam where people talk to me lol.

All my woes aside? I do like Ubuntu Mate and Manjaro.

The issue with linux is that it forces you to know how to do everything; it's not very forgiving and sometimes not at all intuitive.

The amount of steps involved in simply downloading drivers is far more time consuming than the far more intuitive windows method of just downloading and running the file, even if you know how to do it already.

Took me 3 days to figure out how to install my nvidia drivers the first time I started using Mint. I did a proper install and everything, clean and textbook. Regardless, I spend those days browsing guides, forums, etc. till I eventually figured it out myself.

It's excellent if you are the type like me who needs to go off the deep end to truly get good at computers.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.
