Change your password? Contact PayPal, let them know, ask how they were able to 'hack' your account and ask for your £2.23 back if it was on their end.

Someone hacked my brother's and spent $90 and he just contacted his Card's Holder. They locked his account, sent him a new card, and refunded him the money. His card is connected with his back account...

Make sure you do a full deep scan (scanning memory, registry, filesystem objects etc.) to see if it is a keylogger, use malwarebytes and if that doesn't find anything, use Avast just to be sure it didn't miss anything. 

 

If you're able to remove it, and it was a keylogger, i'd recommended using a password manager like KeePass 2, even if it is just for things like your PayPal and online banking or whatever. The thing with password managers, is that you copy the password to the clipboard and paste it in, so keyloggers won't work.  

 

To generate a password, i use LastPass generator, that way i never even type a password... https://lastpass.com/generatepassword.php

Could be any number of ways... He/she might not have even needed direct access to your account, not really sure, something PayPal could probably tell you if you contact them directly.

 

You don't use the password you use for PayPal for anything else, do you? And it's not anything guessable?

 

EDIT: You might want to run a Malwarebytes full scan, just to be on the safe side; i've known Avast miss some things which Malwarebytes has caught.

Okay I just reset everything and submitted the problems to the resolution center. Meanwhile no purchases until then!

They stupid thing with PayPal is that they put some limits on your password. Like you can't have more than 16 or 20 characters in your password.

Most websites do that. Annoys peeps that use password managers.

Also @op start using keepass (last pass got hacked).
