So we were having some ISP connection issues and I decided to have a look what's going on with the modem, and I checked the logs of who was connected and there's a COMPLETELY unfamiliar name and I asked everyone in my family if they knew what it was and they didn't have a clue. So it's pretty clear that someone managed to get onto the home network, if they come back, is there a way to send them a message or something "kindly" saying to fuck off or give them a nice kick?

What's your security tpye? Is it WPA2? If not make it WPA2 and update the password. Maybe even the SSID, or hide the SSID. There are also tools that are in a legal gray area, that you can use to mess with their connection.

Get a WiFi sniffer and a shotgun. Find em, end em.

 

Then change your password to something that's like thirty characters, uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters.

I don't have a WiFi connected Windows device, but I know there's a way to find out there.

Make sure this is done and make as long a passphrase as possible and try to mix case and introduce extra characters. Also make sure WPS is turned off and update your firmware as certain routers will still have WPS enabled even when disabled. There is no way to "send them a message" and to be perfectly honest if someone broke into your wifi you may not want to antagonize as you don't know how long they've been there and what they might have sniffed from your traffic. Make sure you do a Malware bytes scan for root kits to be sure but more then likely they just wanted a net connection or backup for failover.

Does your router have a password? I know your wi-fi does, but the router itself can be accessed by anyone using default user names and passwords, so if you don't have your router set up with a password, it could be rehacked even after you change the wi-fi password.

FYI, 128 bit WEP takes the same amount of time to crack as 64 bit, around 5-10 minutes depending on signal strength regardless of paw word length. WPA2 is the most secure and still isn't technically foolproof.

You mentioned "sending them a message" which would involve you either redirecting traffic to a radius server you host, or you might simply throw a bash script on an dd-wrt router for that mac+hostname to redirect all traffic (including obfuscated types) to a simple page that says whatever you want. Both of these methods might be far beyond your skill level.

 

P.S. For everyone else, Linus forgot to mention in his latest wifi security video that your wireless SSID name is a qualifier seed in the wpa hashing algorithm. So unless you still want to be a target of pwnage from a 500GB rainbow table, use a "non standard" SSID name as well.

Where can I find a WiFi sniffer, I think I've seen those before but now I'm pretty interested in one haha

This statement confuses me as WPA and WPA2 are 256 bit. You may be referring to a 128 bit random generated key for use which is a good suggestion but hard for people to remember. I've included a link below for other who are interested in the differences as well.
