Intel Skylake: Should I wait?

Hey guys!

I'm wondering if I should wait for the Intel 6700K (Skylake) or just use the 4790K?

I know that the release date for Skylake is really soon, and I ALWAYS want the best stuff!

Plus, I know that TDP will be lower.

I need help! Thanks! :)

Eh, you likely won't notice any kind of difference in day to day or gaming use.
I'd just go with what's out now.

The only real reason to upgrade a chip is if the motherboards support something the old ones don't. Like m.2 storage, or something of that nature.

Isn't the TDP going to be higher ( 95W vs 88 ) ?

How much do you want to spend? The i7-6700k will almost certainly be a better CPU than an i7-4790k, but it'll probably be a lot more expensive too because of the improved integrated graphics.

It's a better CPU at stock. It remains to be seen how well the 6700K will overclock due to its higher TDP and smaller process node.

It's not like the 4790k is much of an overclocker anyways over its stock speed. With good cooling it seems to be able to usually hit 4.6 GHz, but that's only 400 MHz above the stock clocks that would turbo it to 4.2 GHz on all cores.

Ah. I guess I was wrong about the TDP.

I'm probably gonna wait, for the extra performance I can squeeze out.

Thanks everyone! :)
