What should I do with my CPU?

I'm looking towards an upgrade for my CPU rather than a graphics as in another forum people said that any graphics card above a 750Ti would bottleneck with my CPU (Trinity AMD A8-5500). So I dug around and found that my motherboard supports AMD Socket FM2. (100W Max)

so any of these models below.

 

* Trinity Dual-Core A4-5300
* Trinity Dual-Core A6-5400K
* Trinity A8-5600K, A8-5500 Quad-Core
* Trinity A10-5800K, A10-5700 Quad-Core

 

But say If was to get a GTX960 what processor out of the above would I need, so it wont bottleneck or will I have to buy a new motherboard to support a better CPU for the GPU

None, an 860k would be the best option on the FM2+ platform -- but that motherboard won't allow you to benefit all that much from anything better than what you already have anyway. So, I would just hold out for a proper upgrade -- a new cpu+gpu+mobo. But if you want more performance, then go with a 960/280x for now.

You might want to save up to get a new mobo and CPU. Even if it's a mid end i3 with a z97 board socket type 1150 ( z97 so you can easily add like a i5-4690k later and overclock it) plus get a r9 380, it'll,perform better then a GTX 960. The upgrade path is a dead end.

I would hop on over to an i3. Also there are r9 290 for about the same price as this 380 everyone is sooo eager to suggest

Do you have a laptop? Because you can't generally upgrade laptop cpus, or apus in your case.

I have a A8 5600K I overclocked it to 4.8 GHz and it runs the R9 270, Even at stock clock no bottleneck so it should be fine with the 750ti

Yup, I doubt his CPU would bottleneck a 960 as it's not a very powerful GPU to begin with. If he were to go for a 970 then probably but atm, highly unlikely.

at 4.8ghz maybe. 5500 runs at 3.2.

Passmark is not crap, believe me, I've tested and for the most part it makes a lot of sense.

Pecisely, no. Give you a good idea as to what to expect, sort of.

They give you a good idea how you compare to other hardware running that exact same version of that exact same benchmark, which is what synthetics are meant for. That's why it provides a result in abstract "points" rather than frames per second or seconds to completion or something. When you use a theoretical test, you get theoretical results.

 

If you want to know how your CPU worth a couple hundred dollars is going to perform in a real game, you should be looking at gaming data. I don't see any point in trying to guess from Passmark results when there are literally hundreds of gaming benchmarks out there for each generation of hardware.

You will not be bottle necked one bit, I have a 650 ti Boost and FX 6300 and it runs all my games perfectly fine, I saw no loss over my i3 3240, I actually saw an improvement.
