Im a fan of Nvidia and I wanted to buy a 980 for my first gaming pc, but then I found this.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2344304/single-gtx-980-handle-1440p-gaming.html

Any modern game that has a decent GPU requirement will run fine on an SLI rig.

A single GTX980 is only 10-13% faster than a single GTX970 but its costs 60%+ MORE. That makes the GTX970 a MUCH better buy for the performance, if you need more performance, a second GTX970 is worth it.

Is this true?

Should I rather go with SLI 970's or 1 gtx for 1440p gaming?

Thanks

Get a 980ti. It costs the same and performs the same as 970SLI, but without the issues that SLI has.

In the UK, 980 Ti costs £120 more than 970 SLI.

CPU: AMD 7800X3D Motherboard: NZXT B650E RAM: 32GB 5600 30-CL Corsair Vengeance DDR5 GPU: MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 2070 PSU: Corsair RM850i Monitor: Samsung 27" 4K thing Cooling:Noctua Chromax Black NH-D15: Case: NZXT H510 Black

You get a better minimum fps with 980 Ti, but better max fps with 970 SLI.

Didnt see any of that with 1440p 144Hz gaming. And if you do run into that problem, just remove AA/other stuff that do the same and maybe reduce textures.

Is that permanant, or is it because supply is still stifled because no one has any 980 Tis to sell yet? Because from what I saw on release the 980 Ti was supposed to be £550

If it's not a problem in Shadow of Mordor at 4K, I doubt it will be a problem anywhere else.

Only MSI have their non-reference card ready at the moment, which is £569? Asus are taking pre-orders, as are EVGA and the other big ones, bar Palit but their cards are SRSLY LOWD.

Although there's a Zotac here from £509, which is much cheaper than the reference cards, wonder why.

But this if you're correct about £550, it is practically the same price to get 2 970s or 1 980Ti.

When the 970s first came out it took a while for the price to stabilise because supply was shocking. I would give it a bit before buying a 980 Ti.

Yeah, but if you don't want to wait, 970 SLI is a good move :)
