Hey guys,
So i just sold my 4690k to help out a friend running a really underpowred amd.
Anyways, im still currently using an Asus VI Impact (z87) and was thinking of getting the 4770k, 4790k, e3 1231v3, 1341v3 or thr 5775c, or some other upcoming cpu?

I will be using it for alot of encoding and decoding as well as VMs.

I do not feel like changing my motherboard as i am using an ITX build, so yeah..

My question is that without spending too much, which cpu would probably be the best idea?

Also, if i must change my motherboard is it gonna be worth the performance gain?

are there any other desktop broadwells coming up?

Im siding towards a used 4790k as i am also using a noctua u9s in this build, should be decent enough for light OCs.

What chall think?

or maybe just another 4690k xD\

z87 is updated.

Thanks for all your answers guys, for now i will be hunting for a good deal on a 4790k and wait it out till next year.
I might even get a 4690k and sell off the whole system for something.. different.

Either the 4790k or the 1231v3. Unless your Z87 is special it won't get an update to support Broadwell, only 97 series will.

I was correct, no support for Broadwell. 4790K is the best you can do.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Z87 does not support Broadwell so you can forget about that one. A haswell refresh processor requires a bios upgrade and most of the time you can't do that without a CPU. I think it kinda narrows it down to the 4770k as your best bet, I'd only consider a Xeon if you don't plan on overclocking. And I sadly don't know enough about Xeon compatibility to tell you which one is haswell, devil's cannon or broadwell

I would say 4790K as you can do that small OC.

And I guess if you could upgrade the Mobo, Skylake (14nm) is released in a few weeks.

But if you want to keep your current one, I would say 4790K is the best choice.

Mobo MSI X370 Carbon CPU Ryzen 7 1700 3.8GHz RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x8GB 3000MHz GPU ASUS GTX 1070 Strix Case NZXT S340 Storage Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2 - Seagate 1TB  PSU EVGA 750W Cooling NZXT Kraken X52 OS WIndows 10 Pro

Keyboard Arachnid Recore - Cherry MX Red Mouse Corsair M45  !!--GTA V--!!

4790K is your best bet. Broadwell is nothing special, just power improvements.

EDIT: Also, all Broadwell desktop CPUs are out. Intel shrunk the amount they released, probably because of how close Skylake is.

Yup, i encode using 4790k and maxwell gpu, cant complain

He sold his 4690K, so he's got the BIOS update installed. (presuming he's used the CPU, that is)

EDIT: The board also support USB BIOS Flashback, so he could update the BIOS without a CPU anyway.

Ask for that i5 back temporarily and update you Z87 board so it will be happy with Haswell refresh chips.

Go for a i7 4790K or Xeon if you don't want to overclock.  The Xeon in fact, may serve you better due to the ideology of a Xeon...

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.
