Hello guys, so I am going to build my first gaming PC. For now I will mostly use it for gaming and 3D modelling later on. The games I will play the most are DOTA 2 and CS:GO, also I'll play some newer games from time to time but not much. I've chosen this build because I want a pleasant appearance as well as great performance and very high fps in the games I mentioned above.

MB: Gigabyte B85M-HD3

CPU: CPU Core i5-4460 Quad 3.2GHz

RAM: DIMM 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Kingston CL11

GPU: Gigabyte PCX GeForce GTX960 2GB GDDR5
HDD: HDD 3.5" 1TB Western Digital SATA3 64MB Caviar Blue 7200rpm
PSU: PSU 500W Deepcool DN500 Black 80Plus
Case: ATX Midi Tower Case Deepcool Tesseract SW Black

So my question here is should I change something in my build? Can this rig get any more efficient than this (performance per dollar)? I was also considering if it's worth it to get a Gigabyte H97-HD3 motherboard instead of the one I listed in the specs above? Thank you in advance.

Not sure what you describe as *very* high FPS but if its 120FPS+ were talking here the 960 will not be able to achieve that on max settings.

EDIT-- It will achieve that in Dota 2 and CS:GO but not in newer more demanding games.

I understand you're on a budget but I really think that you'll love your machine a lot more if you put in a 970 instead of a 960

Of course I will  :D , but the problem is that the 970 is ~170 euros more expensive than the 960.

How much are you paying for 960?

How much is the 970 where u live?

Gigabyte PCX GeForce GTX960 2GB GDDR5 2xDVI/HDMI/DP - 202.93 euros

Gigabyte PCX GeForce GTX970 4GB GDDR5 WINDFORCE 3X - 372.20 euros

The GTX960 I'm getting is 1x Windforce though (only 1 fan).

Make absolute certain that motherboard is revision 1.0, as Gigabyte has been cheaping out on revision 2.0 components in its B85 boards. I think it was on Guru3D.com where I read about their revision 2.0 B85 boards throttling locked CPUs.

Yes do that...other than that it looks good, if you can't trow more money at it then i think your component selection is pretty solid, the PSU i would get a slightly better one you know...a cheap EVGA or corsair that is bronze rated or something...you know, but this one i assume comes with the case but you might be better picking a different cheap case that won't come with a cheap PSU...but it depends on price if it means going with an i3 or a GTX750ti and shit like that...probably not worth it...i use to have cooler master 625W that from the reviews was the most terrible crap ever made it was not even rated 80+ it was not rated AT ALL...it was rated fireworks level...and it ran my system for over 5 years and i still have it in my closet and it works flawlessly...so you never know.

Is there any particular reason why I should replace the B85 with a H97? Also the PSU is ~50 euros, so it's not very cheap and it doesn't come with the case. Anyway I'd really appreciate if you could help me out by choosing one right here:

just sort the list by price and let me know if you can find something good and efficient. Also the currency is in МКД/денари, so just type 'euros to denars' in google so you can convert the currency and compare the prices. ty nonetheless  :)

EDIT: You can actually change the currency as well, the option is on the right of the ANHOCH logo

the H97 board is just plain better and it's certain to support haswell refresh CPU's such as the i5-4460 out of the box, where as the B85 is cheaper and older and might not support the 4460 out of the box you might need to flash the bios to a most recent one and to perform this operation you need to have a ''non-refresh'' haswell chip in hands.

For PSU, man your in the realm of very cheap chineese made PSU over there...i see what you mean for the price this 80+ you've selected will do the trick.

Hey jNK,

Your plan seems pretty good and optimal for that budget and target.
I would consider adding a SSD for the OS and more demanding games and applications and leave everything else to the WD Blue drive. A SSD should make your build much snappier and more responsive. :)
