Hey guys,

Whilst I was looking for a good AMP/DAC solution, I realised I knew nothing about the subject.

To make a long story short, I'm looking for a solution to power my ATH-M50X.

I'm willing to go up to a max of about 250/300 Euro's.

Thanks

~MajorTickles

So, we need to start by determining if you actually would benefit from an amp/DAC.

Do you get a comfortable listening volume without turning the volume to 100%? Notice any static or noise without music playing or while gaming?

The M50x is easy enough to drive so I suspect the answer to the first question is yes. As to the second question, there are a number of cheap options that would would really well if you are having problems getting clean audio.

To the first question, yeah, they're comfortable for me around 50% volume.

second question, I notice a bit of static in the background whilst listening to music/youtube/gaming.

It actually annoys me quite a lot...

Test them on another device, if the static is gone then you may actually have some benefit getting a dac/amp.

Intel Core i7 7770K | 32 GB's Ram 3000MHz | GTX 1080 Ti | 250GB SSD | 3TB 7400 RPM | Sound Blaster Z | ASUS ROG MG278Q | Razer Blackwidow Chroma | Final Mouse 2015 | Blue Yeti | Seinheiser HD 600's | Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro | Aune T1 MK2

Additional question then, do you have optical (S/PDIF, toslink) out from your motherboard?

Assuming that the ATH-M50X is your first pair of headphones that cost more than ~$100, why on earth would you be willing to spend 2-3 times as much on a source?! Actually though...

Also, it's very likely to just be the noise floor of OPs source, since it doesn't sound like it's a lot of static. Regardless, there are many solutions that would more than adequately run the M50X for far, far less than $100.

@OP, follow your own topics, or you won't get notified about them!!!

let's see, the SMSL amp/dac works with pc, ps4, and Xbox. As for speaker amp, you can get a cheap one (or use money saved on good powered speakers) that connects to line out. Sbxstudios sounds like a really crappy piece of software that I don't need, and I don't like bluetooth. What's your point? All of that would cost less than $150 for sure.

so shit load of components sound like what I just got rid of by this

many people like to be immersed into their gaming sessions sbx does it better, bluetooth I like it for answering phone calls, I can plug my tablet into it also and listen to music, I can connect any pair of my passive speakers to it,

I can connect 2 headphone

i'd pick x7 over my o2combo and all the rest of my components any day of the week,

Gee, then maybe he should do the moving to a better headphone before spending money on something uselessly expensive? What a concept.
