i7-4790K + GTX 970 Build

MasterAli

Is this a good build, if not, what should I change. And do I need more fans than just the included 200m at the front. I was looking at the Spectre Pros from BitFenix.

I don't plan on overclocking.

Thanks,

Are you only going to be gaming with this? Do you really need the 4790k? Because for games only the 4690k would be the better option.

I'm going to be playing games that are CPU intensive such as CS:GO and Minecraft. I don't need a hefty GPU for that, do I? And yes, I'm going to be doing photo editing and school work also.

Yeah, I wanted to stay under budget though. I could just add a 128gb boot drive...

If you don't plan on overclocking, dont bother with the 4790k and z97, get a 4790.

The 4790K is actually cheaper, and I do plan to overclock in the future.

Nooooope. that i7 is completely Overkill. Ive got 970 and 4690k and CSGO run at 300FPS (maximum) and MC runs at 70-90 with 256textures+optifine. For photo editing its more than enough. too, get an i5 and pick a 250GB SSD.

I do have it overclocked though.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

I changed the powersupply to Seasonic, you can't go wrong with that.

I added a 140mm fan for the back, as from the pictures, there is ONLY a 200MM intake, and with air cooling, I would recommend at least one exhaust.

If you'd like, you could add an SSD, 120GB would be enough for the OS. It is many times faster than a hard drive, and you could also have your startup programs like steam, skype and origin on there, so it starts faster.

CPU: I7 4790K(4.6@1.252v)                               Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed(Black)           Cooler: CM 212 EVO + NF F12 iPPC

RAM: HyperX Fury 1600MHZ CL10 2x4GB      Storage: Samsung 850 EVO(250GB) + WD Red(2TB)      PSU: Corsair RM750 (and no, it hasn't blown up!)

MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger                      Graphics: MSI GTX 970 TwinFrozr (1494MHZ Core)       OS: Windows 10 Enterprise

Will you only gaming? Also for the cooler get a BeQuiet! Pure Rock it's quieter, and will have lower temps. Allowing higher OCs.

For a PSU get a SeaSonic or EVGA GS or G2 series. ( it'll say it in the name or box in a picture) Anything like G2 P2 or T2 is also good but g2 and GS are usually cheaper.

A SSD IS A LUXURY NOT A MUST. Can't stress this enough. A 128gb boot drive from crucial would be good. MX100 or BX100 would be good.

EDIT. Just seen you were getting from microcenter. I don't remember the i5-4690k price for them. Don't get that cheap Sandisk SSD eather.

Minecraft and CS:GO run @60fps even with a G3258... No need for such an overkill CPU, i'd say downgrade to a 4690k if you want to overclock, or a 4440 and an h81 motherboard if you want to cheap out even more without losing performance.

Sorry for the late response, is this good? Went for a 4590, H97 board, and stock cooler. Got me enough money to get a 500gb SSD. At that point I really don't even need the HDD (I can add one in the future), which allows me to get a better monitor.
