Hey guys!

So i have a zotac gtx 970 which has the following ports

1x DVI-I

1x DVI-D

1x HDMI

1x DisplayPort

and i have a monitor with following ports.

1x VGA

1x DVI-D

1x HDMI

currently i am using the dvi-i to vga adapter which came in bundled with the gfx to connect my monitor as when i tried hdmi there was no signal for some odd reason.

So i would like to know what is the best way i can connect the monitor with my card *including if any* adapters as needed.

PS: its a 1080p display.

Regards.

What display are you using?

DVI should work just fine but I'm curious as to why hdmi isn't working.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Normally, you'd want to use the DVI connector, unless you desire to transfer both video and audio signal towards the display.

(Such cases are displays with integrated speakers, or if you plan to reroute the sound from the display towards another output.)

i'm using BenQ GL2460HM

even i dnt get it why HDMI isn't working tbh ... after the initial rig setup i plugged in the hdmi and no display... i got tensed if it was something to do with the setup i build but found out that the display connector is at fault.

I think i'll try to connect my laptop's display to the monitor with hdmi once.

I do have a 3.5mm jack in the display but i dnt really intend to use it so i think a DVI should work fine.

If no data ports on the monitor do DVI or DP.

High refresh rates and data ports do DP.

Low refresh rates and data ports: DP/HDMI

how can i do DP with no port for it in my monitor lol? will it work same with an adapter ?

If you don't have it you don't need it :)

Also keep in mind audio won't be played through DVI unless you have an HDMI adapter.

yep cool, the audio of the display sucks anyways..

so if i dont need audio then simple DVI would do or HDMI is more prefered ?

HDMI is DVI with audio there is no practical difference between the two other than that. Just use DVI, should be just fine.

As for HDMI not working, you did remember to switch the input on the monitor, right? :P

An update... i just tried the HDMI cable and it worked!

now if i dnt want audio then do i use HDMI or DVI ? PS: i dnt have a DVI cable so i'd probably have to buy one so compared to HDMI and DVI which one should i go for.

Well you can always keep using the HDMI just for video, just disable the option to use your screen as a speaker in sounds outputs!
