If I install games on a HDD will I still get the benefits of the SSD (I assume not)

and Should I just install the OS on the SSD and use a HDD for everything else

If not what things should I put on the ssd and not put on the ssd

SSD is for OS.

games on HDD.

games won't load as fast, other than that. no big deal

all OS programs will open super fast.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Yeah, on SSD put games that benefit from it = those that have longer loading times, like MMOs and such, I have Guild Wars 2 there for example

I'd put Shogun 2 omfg that game takes forever to load

I give my OS and any applications that load on start up priority on my SSDs, then games that will actually benefit from it take either take a while to load into the game or that have long loading screens, than after that any other random applications, then everything else.

So I try to fill my SSDs first before I use my HDD for anything, my HDD still has 0 use, and I have 500GB worth of SSDs.

(This way my HDD is also never is use, so I don't get any noise from it, but it is there if I ever need it)

Basically any game that takes forever to load would be good. I'd put GTA V on a ssd because people seem to have problems with textures not loading in fast enough and causing frame drops as a result.

Anything thats loads too slowly, put it on the ssd :)

Although, a raid0 SSHD is very interesting. getting both faster hhd storage and technically faster ssd cache readouts too.

Hey there,

Games rely on the storage's performance only fro their loading times and auto-saves. FPS and graphics are not related to it in any way. Even if you have everything on the SSD and the games on the HDD you should still be able to game perfectly fine, only with longer loading times.

SSDs generally provide greater transfer speeds and quicker loading times. Things that can benefit from them should be on the SSD (like the OS, some frequently-used programs and more demanding games for quicker loading times).

Everything should work fine both on a SSD and on a HDD, simple difference would be the way they work. SSDs have limited amount of write cycles so if you have some really writing-intensive applications taht don't require faster access times or transfer speeds, I would put them on the HDD. Other than that you should be fine.

Simply make sure TRIM is enabled on the SSD and that it is never defragmented.
