Vinyl wrap SSD mod

Enderman

So I decided to make a mod topic about this since it will help people who search on google (rather than just having it in my build log)

Very simple mod. Cut out the shape of the SSD on vinyl wrap, as well as a this strip as wide as the SSD height (usually 7 or 9mm), peel the adhesive, and stick it on flat.

I like cutting the shape a bit larger than the ssd then trim the sides with scissors, this gives a very straight edge.

Underneath there is no wrap since it isnt seen. This is with the S340 2.5" bracket installed.

And when it is in the system:

Looks nice, I'd add some stuff to it though. Just plain white makes me feel like it's missing something.

Fuck you Im mad at you because I can never make my case mods look this nice.

it took me 4 years to get to this point

i really wanted a better looking PC when I started out...like one of those $10000+ liquid cooling builds

then I slowly realized that would never happen and instead I looked for alternate ways of making things look better without spending thousands of dollars on expensive parts

I dont need expensive parts to make a PC look good, I just need creativity and tools and materials :)

my main materials are the white carbon fiber vinyl and white palstidip

plastidip is a bit expensive though...

white S340

Thank you lol I'm getting this case and plan on modding the crap out of it with a lower 45deg rad/pump mount (replacing the 3.5 bays) painting the top or maybe even solid white vinyl to cover the fan like you did.. as well as replacing the window with better plexi/actual tempered glass. Was also thinking about a 360mm rad mod up front by slicing the PSU cover up a bit but decided to just add the rad/ pump mount instead, the case is in shipping and I can't wait to get my hands on it >:)

First off sorry for dbl post.. Second if you are going to do an air cooler.. DO NOT USE PLASTIDIP! It is not rated for heated applications, you are better off finding white BBQ/Stove paint.

Plastidip is only good to about 90C

As long as you only paint the shroud of the cooler (no heatsinks or PCB) it will be fine, just dont let your GPU go above 80C

Then it will not melt

I was thinking of making the backplate white then just accenting the red on the shroud with white :P

Yup :) I've never used it but I'm pretty sure its a latex based paint like krylon H2O, witch allows it to peel off in 1 "skin" like layer witch could turn catastrophic when heated.. Gooey and bubbly mess :) I actually know a lot about aerosols as I used to be a vandal when I was young [emoji14] I'm even considering writing up a thread on painting like what paints to use and avoid, how they react with each other and what paints are best for certain applications :)

EDIT: I noticed lots of people in here are grabbing the first can of paint they see and rolling with it, then posting the paint job turned out like crap.. So I'm sure it would help a lot of people out :)

I wouldn't do it on the backplate, GPU backplates can get really hot

Use a regular paint for the backplate, then plastidip on the shroud :)
