So I was looking at my bodge job of a PC desk, with a IKEA desk then a small TV dinner table next to it to hold my tower. And trust me it was hideous! Been looking around for desks to fit my needs and all seem to be too big or too small, nothing the right size. So I decided just to build one that will fit my needs. As a complete novice to this I vaguely remember using isometric paper in school and though that might be a good start. A quick search online gave me printable paper. After drawing an initial mock up of what I wanted, I came across Google SketchUp, thanks to the lovely people of this forum. Below is a quick view of what I've done so far. I'm planning on putting the power plugs along the back supporting bracket. Please let me know what you think and any improvements I can make.

Materials

Top will be MDF with a wood effect vinyl applied.

Many structure I will use sanded timber painted black.

Looks good. Ensure that you use solid joints to ensure the area for the tower can actually support the weight of a full on pc.

You'll have to make sure that the PC doesn't break the bottom the the compartment.

I find those pc "enclosures" to be horrible, the rest of the desk looks good but i'd get rid of that little pc box!

I will be using metal L brackets on the outside of that compartment to keep it strong both on the bottom and the top to keep it on desk. Normal screws to hold it to the legs aswell.

I don't normally like them either, but I prefer the desk space and hate having the tower on the floor. My case is the Bitfenix Shinobi with side window/fan. I don't have much use looking inside the case so think ill make some slots for the air to pass more easily though the enclosure. Dust filtered ofc. My PC isn't water-cooled so there's no much fanciness to look at haha.

I like it.  Simple and way better quality for the money than you could ever buy at Ikea or an office supply store.
